And, what a year it has been- not just for Gandhi himself, but for the rest of us who have witnessed his journey. While still facing the usual “Italian prince” mockery here and there, he has come a long way, along with the party.

From being ousted brutally in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the INC has made a comeback this year, with key states like Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan now under its rule. However, it hasn’t been a smooth flowing river altogether. The state of Mizoram, Congress’s last stronghold in the North-East is now under MNF, after the former ruling it for a decade.

Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao (KCR)

The second time-won Chief Minister of Telangana has had a remarkable time this year, albeit challenging. In September 2018, his decision to dissolve the state assembly came under harsh scrutiny and criticism. Naturally, many wondered if he would be able to come in for a second term, with the now hastened elections due in December.

However, fighting the risks of anti-incumbency, the KCR-led Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) managed to not only come back to power a second time but to do it with a proud majority. 88 of the total 119 seats were won by the party.

Narendra Modi

While BJP’s five-year term is almost nearing its end, the “Modi Charm” looks like it still has some magic left.
