While that may not be true for all, one thing is certain. A new year does give us the opportunity to sit back and rewind &#8211; marvel over what a year it has been. And, 2018 is no exception to the story, especially for the world of Indian sports.<\/p>\n<p>In November this year, Mary Kom became the first woman ever to win 6 gold medals in the World Championships. With Dipa Karmakar&#8217;s hard work, India bagged its first-ever international gold medal in gymnastics. Curious to find out who else made us proud in the world of sports? However, 2018 marked the (partial rise) of yet another sport &#8211; football. Partial credit can be given to Sunil Chhetri, the captain of the Indian Football Team.<\/p>\n<p>In June 2018, Chhetri became the world&#8217;s second highest goal-scorer among other active players, a position he now shares with Lionel Messi. Not only that, his track record for the number of goals per match is even better than that of Messi and Ronaldo. He hit three consecutive centuries against West-Indies and is among the highest international ODI-run scorers of 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Leading the Indian team to victory, he became the first Asian captain to win a test match series in South Africa, England, and Australia, all three in the same year. This year has been no exception.<\/p>\n<p>In the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Sindhu won a Gold in the mixed category and a silver in the women&#8217;s singles. In Asian Games, the star player, winning a silver medal in the singles, became the first Indian to stand second on the podium. However, the 23-year old Manika Batra more than changed it in 2018. The tennis player has already won three golds in Asian Games, 2016. With 2018, she managed to create history.<\/p>\n<p>In the Commonwealth Games this year, Batra led the women&#8217;s team to a gold medal victory against the defending champions, Singapore. In the doubles category, Batra along with Mouma Das gave India its maiden silver medal in CWG. Time and again, she continues to prove why.<\/p>\n<p>This year, the 35-year old became the first woman ever to hold the World Amateur Boxing champion title 6 times. Not only that, Mary Kom has won gold in each of the seven world boxing championships, the first woman to ever do so.
