With a few final days remaining before the calendar turns to a brand new year, the ticking clock has got us reminiscing again. Sure enough, 2018 has been a roller coaster ride, with a couple of downs, and some memorable ups.<\/p>\n

Our Wonder Women have once again proven that gone are the days of lagging one step behind. Several beautiful, resilient women have showcased what it’s like to walk with their head held high, making the country proud. While the list remains endless, we bring to you six women who made us all proud Indians in 2018. Scroll on!

Justice Indu Malhotra<\/h2>\n

As 2018 comes to an end, there is rarely anybody in the country who hasn’t heard the name of Indu Malhotra. Appointed in April 2018, she became the first-ever woman Justice in the Supreme Court. In 2007, she was designated a senior advocate in the apex court, the second woman to have been given the title.<\/p>\n

Justice Indu Malhotra was part of the Supreme Court bench that passed the historic judgement, striking down portions of Section 377 in September 2018.

Flight Lieutenant Avani Chaturvedi<\/h2>\n

In 2016, Avani Chaturvedi created history by becoming one of the first women fighter pilots in India, alongside- Mohana Singh and Bhawana Kanth.<\/p>\n

She was promoted to the rank of Flight Lieutenant this year, having already been inducted into the squadron back in 2016. In February 2018, Avani became the country’s first-ever women pilot to fly a MiG-21. With her pursuit of the skies not slowing down, the young pilot sure has many more milestones ahead.

MC Mary Kom<\/h2>\n

Having been India’s star daughter for quite some time now, Mary Kom has once again proven this year why she is considered \u201cthe best of the best\u201d.<\/p>\n

Bagging a gold medal for herself in the 2018 Commonwealth Games, she later went on to win the World Championships in October, the same year. Doing so, the 35-year old boxer created history by becoming the first-ever woman to hold the World Amateur Boxing champion title a grand total of 6 times.

Mithali Raj<\/h2>\n

Standing tall and proud with her team, right beside the men’s, Mithali Raj has broken the old stereotype- that cricket is a men’s sport.<\/p>\n

Captain of the Indian cricket team, Mithali has several laurels to her name. In June this year, she became the first Indian cricketer to reach 2000 runs in T20 innings. Having led her team to World Cup finals in 2005 and 2017, she is also the only Indian captain (male or female), to hold that post in more than one World Cup finals.

Manika Batra<\/h2>\n

At the young age of 23, Manika Batra has already taken huge leaps of success, getting well-deserved recognition this year. In Commonwealth Games 2018, Batra led the Indian women’s table tennis team to its first-ever finals victory. The team bagged a gold medal, defeating the standing champions, Singapore.<\/p>\n

She also won a silver, along with Mouma Das in the doubles for CWG 2018, another first feat. Not only that, but Manika also bagged the individual gold medal in the event. The young player has had an exceptionally good run in 2018, proving that our sportspersons have more than just Cricket in their veins.

Deepika Padukone<\/h2>\n

According to IMDb, the gorgeous actress is this year’s number one Indian star, even leaving behind the likes of SRK. Without a doubt, 2018 has been Padukone’s year.<\/p>\n

Recently in news for her glamorous, top-notch Bollywood wedding with Ranveer Singh, Deepika has her throne secure. In Forbes India list of the richest celebrities 2018, the actress appeared at the 4th<\/sup> place.
