Muhammad Ali Shah, the third Nawab of Awadh, built the Imambara in 1837 that served as his own mausoleum and has the tombs of Muhammad Ali Shah and his family members. The imposing decorations at the time of special festivals have popularized it as the Palace of Lights.

Its gold-plated white dome and several turrets and minarets gracefully enhance the beauty of the structure. The interiors have been decorated with exquisite chandeliers which were exclusively brought from Belgium. The walls are enriched with Arabic calligraphy. The royal structure is the creation of thousands of workers who worked on this project to gain respite from famine.

Outside the building you will find a clock tower called Satkhanda or the ‘Tower of Seven Storeys’. The Satkhanda was built by Muhammad Ali Shah and has only four storeys because of the abeyance in the construction at the death of Ali Shah. Just opposite the entrance lies the Naubat Khana, a place where music is played three times a day in honour of the dead. A visit to this majestic structure is truly an overwhelming experience!

Timings: 6 am-5pm

!@#$%

Related information :

10 Reasons to Visit Lucknow

Sacred Dargah of Hazrat Abbas

Hazrat Mahal

Bada Imambara

Hussainabad Imambara

Ambedkar Memorial park

Location: Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh Located in the City of Nawabs, Hussainabad Imambara or the Chhota Imambara, is one of the most mesmeric buildings of Lucknow.
