The year 2018 marked a paradigm shift in Bollywood, in the sense that there was a greater focus on meaningful and content-driven movies, which were closer to our lives. These were the small budget films that were earlier frowned upon by audience and producers alike. This also meant that those actors, who had earlier been branded as ‘side role’ actors, were now coming to the forefront and hogging the limelight that was once the sole preserve of the big names such as the Khans et al. The year 2019 also started on a promising note, with movies that dealt with diverse subjects and promised a lot more than the regular fare for the Bollywood buffs in us.<\/p>\n

The Year So Far<\/strong><\/p>\n

The first quarter of 2019 is over, and several of the films that have been released during this period have either delivered on their expectations or fizzled into oblivion. The most anticipated among this bunch were Uri and The Accidental Prime Minister (both released on 11 January), Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi (it released on 25 January), Ek Ladki ko Dekha to Aisa Laga (it released on 1 February), and Gully Boy (it released on Valentine\u2019s Day). Uri and Gully Boy were the most successful among them. Kalank, which released on 16 April is part of this list as well.<\/p>\n

Super 30<\/strong><\/p>\n

It was originally supposed to release on 25 January but has now been pushed back to 26 July. This is a biopic of Anand Kumar, a well known teacher and mathematician based out of Bihar. The role is being essayed by Hrithik Roshan. The Super 30 institute is well known to select the 30 brightest students from poor families, and training them for the toughest competitive examinations such as IIT-JEE (Indian Institute of Technology \u2013 Joint Entrance Examination), with great success. It is Sajid Nadiadwala who is producing the film alongwith Phantom Films and Reliance Entertainment. Anurag Kashyap is directing the film after the #MeToo controversy surrounding its previous director Vikas Bahl.<\/p>\n

Kabir Singh<\/strong><\/p>\n

The film is expected to release on 21 June. Sandeep Vanga has directed the film, and it is supposed to be the official remake of Arjun Reddy, his hit film from the Telugu film industry. Shahid Kapoor stars in the role of the protagonist. It is basically the tale of an alcoholic surgeon who is on the path to self-destruction after his lover marries another person. Kiara Advani is expected to play a major role in the film as well.<\/p>\n

Mission Mangal<\/strong><\/p>\n

The next name on this list would be that of Mission Mangal, that releases on the Independence Day and is highly awaited as well. The film tells the real-life story of the ladies at ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) who played the biggest role in the success of the mission known as Mangalyaan.
