This film, directed by Shekhar Kapur, was based on the life of dreaded dacoit Phoolan Devi. The National Award winning film successfully portrayed the caste-divide in rural India. And how the social circumstances forced a young girl in her teens to transform into the most notorious bandit. Bandit Queen was filmed in the rustic landscape of northern India and showcased the evils of poverty, child marriage and the nexus between law enforcement and the outlaws. The role of adult Phoolan Devi was portrayed by Seema Biswas.<\/p>\n<p>The film went on to win National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi along with that year\u2019s Filmfare Critics Award for both movie and direction. It was selected as the Indian entry at 67th Academy Awards for the Best Foreign Language Film category. It is a period film that portrayed the India-Pakistan partition, its consequences, and the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi by Nathuram Godse. The film\u2019s protagonist Saketh Ram, belonging to a wealthy family, was a peaceful and family person. However, partition of India and Pakistan ignited religious tensions among communities and ultimately led to sexual assault on Saketh\u2019s wife. Once this happened, Saketh was brainwashed into believing that Mahatma Gandhi was mainly responsible for the problems of his country. However, later the protagonist learns that the Mahatma taught love and peace, ultimately leading to change of his heart and mind.<\/p>\n<p>Hey Ram went on to bag 3 National Film Awards and was also chosen by the Film Federation of India as official submission of India to the Oscars in 2000. She went on to marry Hanwant Singh of Jodhpur. The original story was written by the son of Zubeida Begum, Khalid Mohammed (also the film\u2019s screenplay writer). The role of the protagonist was played by Karisma Kapoor and the star cast of the movie included Rekha, Manoj Bajpayee, and others. \u201cZubeidaa\u201d went on to win National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi. This film was the adaptation of the crime novel Black Friday: The True Story of the Bombay Bomb Blasts by S. Hussain Zaidi. The book was based upon the real life incidents of 1993 Bombay blasts. It also successfully portrayed the then underbelly of Mumbai.<\/p>\n<p>The film chronicles the events that led to the serial blasts and the subsequent police investigation. This docudrama was premiered at Locarno International Film Festival of 2004 but was only allowed to be released in 2007 because of a stay issued by the Bombay High Court. Black Friday went on to win Grand Jury Prize at the Indian Film Festival (Los Angeles). It was also selected at the Locarno International Film Festival as a nominee for the Golden Leopard award.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h2>5. He was the force behind the Reliance conglomerate. This film was directed as well as co-written by Mani Ratnam. The film portrays the life of a villager named Gurukant Desai who arrives in Bombay back in 1958. His meteoric rise from the streets of Mumbai to one of the biggest business tycoons of all time forms the plot of the story. The role of the protagonist was played by Abhishek Bachchan. The other stars in the film were Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Mithun Chakraborty, and others. Guru was the first mainstream Indian film that premiered in Canada. It went on to be screened in the 2007 Cannes Film Festival\u2019s prestigious Tous Les Cinemas du Monde (World Cinema) section.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h2>6. However, hardships faced by his family while he was away from home forced him to become a dacoit. The lead role was portrayed by Irrfan Khan. This UTV Motion Pictures produced and Tigmanshu Dhulia directed movie was premiered at London Film Festival\u2019s British Film Institute in 2010. It bagged two awards (Best Feature Film and Best Actor) during 60th National Film Awards 2012.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h2>7. The role of the protagonist was played by Rajkummar Rao. This film was co-produced by Anurag Kashyap, UTV Spotboy and Sunil Bohra. &#8216;Shahid&#8217; went on to win Best Actor and Best Director awards at 61st National Film Awards ceremony.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h2>8. This Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra directed biographical sports drama went on to become one of the biggest grossing films of all time. The film was inspired by the book titled The Race of My Life, an autobiographical piece co-authored by Milkha Singh and Sonia Sanwalka (Milkha\u2019s daughter). Prasoon Joshi was the script writer of the film and the role of the protagonist was played by Farhan Akhtar.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h2>9. Omung Kumar directed this Priyanka Chopra starrer biographical sports film. Though the film was initially planned to be shot in Manipur, the plan was shelved due to security concerns. A major portion of the Manipur locales were recreated and was mainly shot in Manali and Dharamshala. Mary Kom premiered at the opening night of 39th Toronto International Film Festival 2014. It was released on September 5, 2014. This film went on to become the highest grossing film of all time having a female lead. At the 62nd National Film Awards, the film received the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment award. It was produced by Aamir Khan (along with UTV Motion Pictures and Walt Disney Pictures India), who also played the role of the protagonist Mahavir Singh Phogat.
