1. Indira Gandhi International Airport (New Delhi)<\/h2>\n

This airport is the primary civilian aviation hub that connects Delhi\u2019s National Capital Region with the rest of the world. In terms of traffic handling, the international Delhi airport is the 12th busiest in the world and 6th busiest in Asia.<\/p>\n

– Indira Gandhi International Airport (named after the former Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi) currently handles nearly 70 million passengers, which is expected to reach 100 million passengers by 2030.<\/p>\n

– There were 460,429 aircraft movements in IGIA Delhi in 2018-19.<\/p>\n

– Cargo tonnage moved through this airport last year was more than 10 lakh tonnes.<\/p>\n

At Airport Service Quality Awards 2017, Indira Gandhi International Airport was adjudged the \u201cWorld’s Best Airport\u201d<\/strong>, the highest airport category that handles over 40 million passengers on an yearly basis.<\/p>\n

2. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (Mumbai, Maharashtra)<\/h2>\n

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport is the main international airport connecting the commercial capital of Mumbai with the rest of the world. In terms of passenger traffic, the Mumbai airport was adjudged the 28th busiest airport in the world and 14th busiest in Asia.<\/p>\n

– Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (named after the legendary seventeenth-century Indian warrior king) handles nearly 50 million passengers currently.<\/p>\n

– 321,263 aircraft movements were recorded in 2018-19.<\/p>\n

– 9 lakh tonnes of cargo movement was recorded at this airport.<\/p>\n

The Mumbai Airport was also adjudged the \u201cWorld’s Best Airport\u201d along with Delhi Airport during the Airport Service Quality Awards 2017.<\/p>\n

3. Kempegowda International Airport (Bengaluru, Karnataka)<\/h2>\n

\"Kempegowda<\/a><\/p>\n

Kempegowda International Airport is operated by a public\u2013private consortium – Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL). This airport is a fully solar powered one and is named after the founder of Bengaluru \u2013 feudal ruler Kempe Gowda I.<\/p>\n

– During April 2018 – March 2019, the total number of passengers handled by this airport was 33 million.<\/p>\n

– The total number of aircraft movements was 239,395.<\/p>\n

– The total cargo tonnage handled by the Kempegowda International Airport was 3.86 lakh tonnes.<\/p>\n

This airport\u2019s second phase of expansion is currently underway. After completion, the airport will be able to handle 55 million passengers every year.<\/p>\n

4. Chennai International Airport (Chennai, Tamil Nadu)<\/h2>\n

Chennai International Airport is one of the top 50 busiest airports of Asia. This airport is well connected with different parts of Chennai, thanks to the Chennai Suburban Railway system\u2019s Tirusulam railway station and Chennai Metro\u2019s airport metro station.<\/p>\n

– During April 2018 – March 2019, this airport served 22.5 million passengers including international traffic.<\/p>\n

– The total number of aircraft movements was 178,079.<\/p>\n

– The total cargo tonnage handled by the Chennai International Airport was more than 4 lakh tonnes.<\/p>\n

While this airport is the hub for IndiGo, Trujet, Blue Dart Aviation, and Alliance Air, it has also been the focus city for Air India, SpiceJet, GoAir, and Air India Express.<\/p>\n

5. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport (Kolkata, West Bengal)<\/h2>\n

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport was earlier known as Dum Dum Airport. It got its new name in 1995, paying homage to one of the most prominent freedom fighters of India Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. The Airport Council International awarded this airport the \u201cBest Improved Airport in the Asia-Pacific region\u201d in 2014 and 2015.<\/p>\n

– During April 2018 – March 2019, this airport served almost 22 million passengers.<\/p>\n

– The aircraft movement during this period was 162,026.<\/p>\n

– The total cargo tonnage handled by Kolkata airport was 1.63 lakh tonnes.<\/p>\n

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport connects Kolkata (West Bengal) with northeast India, China, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and entire Southeast Asia.<\/p>\n
