Mirza Ghalib’s 300 year old haveli is a hidden treasure amidst the chaos of Chandni Chowk in Delhi. The haveli looks like an old battered structure now, but was once home to India’s most celebrated Urdu poet. This haveli was given to him by a physician who was a fan. It’s the same place where Ghalib has written some of the finest poetry. After he passed away, government took possession of this place and put it on the auction block. However, the buyer didn’t leave any legal heir. Later in 1999, Delhi government restored a part of this haveli and turned it into Ghalib’s Museum. In this nostalgic museum, you can see many relics and objects owned by Ghalib.<\/p>\n

Museo Camera is another unique museum in Delhi NCR. This museum showcases vintage analogue cameras from the collection of photographer and art collector Aditya Arya. It has a collection of over 1,000 studio and portable cameras which range from 1880s to 1990s. Apart from that, it also has some cameras from personal collections, which are there as donations or gifts from other camera enthusiasts.<\/p>\n

This museum was started by the organizers of Sulabh NGO, who’re working for improving India’s sanitation issues. The museum showcases India’s evolution of toilets. Some of them are as old as 200 years.<\/p>\n

Railways is one of the prominent modes of transport in India. The foundation of India’s rail network was laid by the British. Today it spans 115,000 kilometres. To celebrate that, Indian Railways has opened a railway museum which is a must visit when in Delhi. This museum showcases more than 100 rail models, signalling equipment, antique train furniture, historic photographs and a working toy train among others.<\/p>\n
