A few Indian Universities have found a place amongst the top universities of the world in the prestigious Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2020 which was released recently. Three universities, including Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and Indian Institute of Science Bangalore, are amongst the top 200 globally. While most of the Indian universities in the QS World University Rankings are government funded, there are a few privately funded ones too. In fact, a total of 23 Indian universities have succeeded in finding a place in the top 1000 universities, as per QS World Rankings. Manipal Academy of Higher Education and O P Jindal Global University are some of the private universities to make it to the top 1000.<\/p>\n

1. Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB)<\/h2>\n

\"Indian<\/a><\/p>\n

Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB) has bagged #152 overall rank in the 2020 QS Global Rankings and the top rank in the country. It has claimed the first place by earning the highest scores for both academic and employer reputation indicators. The institute has been recognised as a world leader for conducting research and engineering education. Many graduates from this institute have contributed distinctively in the fields of academics, research, business, and others.<\/p>\n

2. Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru<\/h2>\n

\"Indian<\/a><\/p>\n

Located in Bengaluru, the Indian Institute of Science is ranked second in the country and #184 in 2020 Global Rankings. This institute has the perfect scores in everything ranging from staff to faculty. The campus of this institute is just a shuttle ride away from various famous research institutes, including the Indian Space Research Organisation. The new campus of IISc is located in Challakere.<\/p>\n

3. Indian Institute of Technology Madras<\/h2>\n

\"Indian<\/a><\/p>\n

Ranked third in India, Indian Institute of Technology Madras is ranked #264 in the world. It has around 8,000 students in 16 academic departments. Set on a self- contained residential campus, the IIT Madras campus is situated adjoining the Guindy National Park. IIT Madras is one of its kind, as it functions to propel successful innovation and a nurturing ecosystem to various startups.<\/p>\n

4. Indian Institute of Technology Delhi<\/h2>\n

\"Indian<\/a><\/p>\n

Ranked fourth in India, the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi has the second highest scores in India, both in terms of academic reputation and employer reputation indicators. Overall, it occupies #182 rank in Global University Rankings. Established in 1961, IIT Delhi is granted the status of Institute of Eminence (IoE) which provides the institute a greater autonomy on tuition fees, course structures, and academic collaborations.<\/p>\n

5. Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur<\/h2>\n

\"Indian<\/a><\/p>\n

Situated in the north-east zone of India, the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur stands at fifth position in the QS India rankings and at #295 position in the QS World Rankings. The IIT Kharagpur is one of its kind and has earned the highest score in the top 10 for International Faculty Indicator. Founded in 1951, IIT Kharagpur has gems like Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google as its alumni.<\/p>\n

6. Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur<\/h2>\n

\"Indian<\/a><\/p>\n

Established in 1959, the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur has been ranked at sixth position in the QS India Rankings list, and #291 in Global Rankings. Not only for academics, but this IIT is also famous for its sprawling residential campus where around 6,500 students are enrolled every year. The institute has achieved a perfect score in terms of Ph.D. staff and faculty. <\/span><\/p>\n

7. University of Hyderabad<\/h2>\n

\"University<\/a><\/p>\n

Standing at seventh position in the list, the University of Hyderabad is the highest non-IIT scorer of this year. Established in 1974, the university has now enrolled nearly 5000 students in around 150 programmes. A large number of foreign students too come to this university for seeking admission. Its QS Global World Ranking is #591-600.<\/p>\n

8. University of Delhi<\/h2>\n

\"University<\/a><\/p>\n

Second non-tech institute to make a place in the list of QS India University Rankings at #474 is the University of Delhi. Established in 1922, Delhi University has over 72 colleges which have enrolled around 132,000 regular students. The university is one of the largest government universities in the country, which is divided into 2 main campuses \u2013 north and south.<\/p>\n

9. Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee<\/h2>\n

\"Indian<\/a><\/p>\n

One of the oldest technical institutions in Asia, the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee was established as the College of Civil Engineering at Roorkee in 1847. IIT Roorkee boasts of becoming the seventh IIT recently in 2001. Also, the institute has the highest score in the top 10 for the international student’s indicator. Its global rank is #383.<\/p>\n

10. Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati<\/h2>\n

\"Indian<\/a><\/p>\n

Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati is the sixth out of 23 institutes which were founded in 1994. It has an overall rank of #491 in QS Global Rankings. It has also earned a perfect score for the staff and Ph.D. indicator. IIT Guwahati also has 10 research centres, and houses one of the fastest and most powerful supercomputers of the country.<\/p>\n
