Andhadhun, Uri, Padmaavat and Mahanati Grab Maximum Honours<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Established in 1954, the National Film Awards are the most prominent awards for films in India. Every year, Government of India appoints a national panel that selects the winning entries. This year, the 66th National Film Awards 2019 for best Indian cinema sprang a surprise or two.<\/p>\n

To begin with, \u2018Hellaro\u2019 became the first ever Gujarati movie to win the National Award for Best Feature Film. Directed by Abhishek Shah<\/em>, \u2018Hellaro\u2019 is a film dwelling on the self-expression and empowerment of women in Kutch. It is a big achievement for Dhollywood or Gollywood \u2013 as they informally call the Gujarati cinema industry. Written by Prateek Gupta<\/em>, \u2018Hellaro\u2019 has stars Shraddha Dangar, Shachi Joshi, Neelam Panchal<\/em> and ten other actresses \u2013 all of whom received Special Jury Award.<\/p>\n

Best Director Award was bagged by Aditya Dhar for his directorial debut \u2013 \u2018Uri: The Surgical Strike\u2019. For portraying the character of Major Vihaan Singh Shergill<\/em> in the same movie, Vicky Kaushal<\/em> got the Best Actor Award. However, Vicky Kaushal<\/em> will be sharing the award of Best Actor with Ayushmann Khurrana<\/em> who played the blind(?) piano player Akash<\/em> in Sriram Raghavan<\/em>\u2019s \u2018Andhadhun\u2019.<\/p>\n

For her brilliant performance in Telugu movie \u2018Mahanati\u2019 \u2013 biopic of actress Savitri \u2013 Keerthy Suresh<\/em> bagged the Best Actress Award. Best Costume Design Award was also claimed by \u2018Mahanati\u2019. Apart from these two awards, \u2018Mahanati\u2019 was also declared the Best Telugu movie.<\/p>\n

Quite well known as a lyricist, Swanand Kirkire bagged the Best Supporting Actor Award for Marathi movie \u2013 \u2018Chumbak\u2019 \u2013 in which he plays a 45-year-old mentally challenged person \u2013 Prasanna<\/em>. Surekha Sikri<\/em> \u2013 who played Nakul\u2019s grandmother in \u2018Badhaai Ho\u2019 \u2013 grabbed the Best Supporting Actress Award.<\/p>\n

\u2018Badhaai Ho\u2019 also won the award for the Best Popular Film providing Wholesome Entertainment. \u2018Pad Man\u2019 was declared Best Movie on Other Social Issues. Marathi Movie \u2018Paani\u2019 was declared the Best Movie on Environment. Written and Directed by D Satya Prakash<\/em>, Kannada Movie \u2018Ondalla Eradalla\u2019 was declared Best Feature Film on National Integration.<\/p>\n

Singer Arijit Singh<\/em> won his first National Award – Male Playback Singer \u2013 for his song \u2018Binte Dil\u2019 for the movie \u2018Padmaavat\u2019, whereas Sanjay Leela Bhansali<\/em> won the Best Music Director Award for the same movie. \u2018Padmaavat\u2019 also won the Best Choreography Award for \u2018Ghoomar\u2019 song.<\/p>\n

Sriram Raghavan<\/em> and his team won the Best Screenplay Award for \u2018Andhadhun\u2019. Apart from Best Actor and Screenplay, \u2018Andhadhun\u2019 also managed to bring home the Best Hindi Feature Film award. \u2018Uri: The Surgical Strike\u2019 also won the Best Sound Recording Award. Thus, \u2018Andhadhun\u2019, \u2018Uri: The Surgical Strike\u2019, \u2018Mahanati\u2019 as well as \u2018Padmaavat\u2019, each won three national awards.<\/p>\n

Kannada movie \u2018K.G.F. Chapter 1\u2019 won two awards \u2013 Best Special Effects and Best Stunt.<\/p>\n

Directed by Srijit Mukherjee<\/em> and based on Bhawal Sanyasi, \u2018Ek Je Chhilo Raja\u2019 won National Award for Best Bengali Movie. Based on Dhruv Bhatt<\/em>\u2019s Gujrati novel \u2018Tatvmasi\u2019, adventure-drama \u2018Reva: A Journey Within\u2019 won the Best Gujarati Movie award.<\/p>\n
