But, amidst that clich\u00e9 ridden phase, Anurag Kashyap has brought a breath of fresh air to the world of cinema.<\/p>\n

Kashyap’s films are an unflinching account of the real aspects of human existence. He has successfully managed to bring the necessary change in Bollywood with a new parallelism unmitigatedly.<\/p>\n

On his birthday, let’s look at some of the films of Anurag Kashyap which made us believe that entertainment can also be sensible.<\/h2>\n

1. Dev. D<\/h2>\n

Paro played by Mahi Gill, a vivacious middle-class girl from Punjab is secretly in love with Dev, played by Abhay Deol, who is also her childhood sweetheart. When Dev comes to India from London to meet her, their love blossoms physically. But when her sexual background comes to his knowledge, he backs off. While trying to find a haven for his dejected self, he encounters Leni played by Kalki Koechlin who became a prostitute after her sex video got leaked. Dev. D is a modern-day take on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s Devdas but this contemporary interpretation is gut-wrenching which astounds the mind of the audience by its characters. The film also successfully breaks the taboo attached to prostitution and a woman’s desire.<\/p>\n

2. Gangs of Wasseypur<\/h2>\n

A coalfield which is the operating ground of gangsters. A fight between Queraishi leaders and Ramadhir Singh. Their heir, love life, moral dilemma and unending appetite for sex and power, all in the lawless land of Wasseypur. In this tale of hoodlums, Kashyap has dissected subjects like power equations, feudalism, and life in a seditious town of Bihar. Another thing which brought the film into the limelight is its way of telling a story which is terrorizing not only in its milieu and bloodthirsty sequels but also in its strong language. It’s considered to be one of the most bold narrations in Bollywood till date.<\/p>\n

3. The Lunchbox<\/h2>\n

The Lunchbox is an epistolary of a woman named Ila played by Nimrat Kaur and a man named Saajan Fernandes played by Irrfan Khan. Ila is a young and educated housewife, who craves for her husband’s attention. And in order to put the romance back into her marriage, she cooks delicious food which gets mixed up and the Dabba<\/em> reaches Saajan instead of her husband. This slip up of the Dabba ignites hope to rekindle her desires which seemed to have been lost inside the marriage. Lunchbox is a delicately fabricated story of a woman, man and the mystique affair which is bounded and accepted inside the institution of marriage only.<\/p>\n

Rani, a sweet, meek Delhiite who is obedient to parents gets rejected by her fiance who things her traditionalist approach towards life is unsuitable for him. The film is about how Rani breaks not only her ex’s perception about her but also demonstrates that a woman who is self-sufficient doesn’t really require a man. Queen is a significant film which rattles the audience with questions that we seem to benignly follow.<\/p>\n

5. Udta Punjab<\/h2>\n

A youth pop star Tommy played by Shahid Kapoor, a Bihari migrant worker Alia Bhatt, a doctor and an activist played by Kareena Kapoor and all their lives are interconnected with Drugs. The subject of the film is one of the most important issues persisting in the state of Punjab for years, however, this topic was never talked about in Bollywood before. What is more interesting is its serious treatment in the film.<\/p>\n

6. Lust Stories<\/h2>\n

Four women who reside in the incarcerated city of Mumbai go in search of love, to explore their sexuality by breaking from the boundaries set for them in the form of marriage, ethics, and morality of being a woman. Kalindi, played by Radhika Apte, a college teacher falls for her student and teaches him how to have sex. Reena played by Manisha Koirala goes out of wedlock and sleeps with another man to quench her sexual desires. Sandhya played by Kiara Advani toys with a sex device due to her husband’s impotency, and Sudha, a domestic help, sleeps with her employer’s son. Everything about this film is dauntless and a much needed nudge to the society about women.<\/p>\n

7. Manmarziyaan<\/h2>\n

All love stories do not have a happy ending. Each one has its share of complexities. Manmarziyaan<\/a><\/span> is an incite to that. It talks about not the quotidian love but the love which is forced to happen between culturally different people by their families. Lives of Robbie played by Abhishek Bachhan, Rumi played by Taapsee Pannu and Vicky played by Vicky Kaushal are intertwined and also connected through the various complexities of love.<\/p>\n
