Sustainability is the new world order, and the way forward is the way – you guessed it- electric. The automotive game of thrones has already set course for the sustainable kingdoms of mobility. The electric will rise, and only a few shall survive to battle it out for the one throne.\u00a0 The blue-eyed, the white-eyed, the light-emitting bright-eyed shall rule, because this time they’re on the side of life, and sustainability.<\/p>\n

The fuel burners have been outlawed and are slowly being abandoned by the people, who’ve realised how we’ve ravaged our environment and the very life that co-exists with us, plain in sight and yet unseen, and it’s a race to see who would lead the electric revolution that will alter the course of the world.<\/p>\n

Dramatic and yet every bit worthy of the overwhelming change that world manufacturers are striving to bring to the way that humanity will move.<\/p>\n

Here are some leading names in the world of electric two-wheeler segment which are ready to lay claim to the throne.<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

1. Curtiss Zeus<\/h2>\n

Custom bike builders Confederate motorcycles have assumed a new avatar – Curtiss motorcycles, and are going all-electric. From the house that gave us the awe-inspiring hellcat, comes the Zeus Radial V8 – named after the way its battery pack has been designed to resemble a V8 and is laid out at the spot where a motorcycle engine is placed. Though they are foraying into electric motorcycles, Curtiss still has one last motorcycle model on sale – a 2163 cc V twin Petrol driven bike called the Warhawk. They have only released prototypes and concepts of the Zeus so far, including a caf\u00e9 racer and bobber variant of it.<\/p>\n

The Powertrain for the Zeus Radial V8 has been built in collaboration with Oxford-based engineering company -YASA, specialising in electric motors. The ‘V8’ electric powertrain produces two hundred and seventeen horsepower and almost two hundred Nm of torque. Its battery is capable of providing 16.8 kWh at 399V. The way the battery packs are designed also takes inspiration from the way that cooling takes place in motorcycle engines. Exposed when the bike is in motion, the battery ‘cylinders’ get air-cooled, keeping them at maximum efficiency throughout the ride. The Zeus Radial V8 pays tribute to the V8 motorcycle that was ridden initially by engineer Glenn Curtiss in 1907 and was capable of speeds up to 218 km\/h. It will, however, be among the most expensive motorcycles one can buy at $75,000.<\/p>\n

2. Energica Ego<\/h2>\n

Built by the Energica Motor Company, the Ego is the first Italian Street legal electric motorcycle and is also the ground-layer for the 2019 MotoE series electric motorcycle racing championship. It’s driven by a 107 kW motor that produces power equivalent to a hundred and fifty horses. Priced at US$ 25000, the Ego is built on a tubular steel frame, does zero to sixty in three seconds, and comes with fascinating features like heated handlebar grips, silent charging and an electric throttle that can respond to twists as close as a hundredth of a degree.<\/p>\n

3. Harley-Davidson Livewire<\/h2>\n

American Motorcycle pioneers, Harley Davidson have spent the better part of the last decade, conceptualising and perfecting their all-electric motorcycle – the Livewire. With it, they shall become the first major motorcycle manufacturer to launch an electric bike officially. The Live wire does zero to a hundred kilometres in just a little over three seconds and has a full charge range of two hundred kilometres. Priced at roughly thirty thousand US dollar, the bike has only been showcased in India, and should it be launched in the country, it would be expected to cost somewhere around a whopping fifty lakh rupees.<\/p>\n

4. Arc Vector<\/h2>\n

With an electric motor that churns out the equivalent of a hundred and thirty-three bhp, the Vector by Arc motor, was first revealed at the EICMA 2018. On a full charge, the bike claims a range of over five hundred kilometres. It comes with unique apparel like a helmet that has a heads-up display on its visor and also acts as a remote key for the bike, and a riding jacket that uses vibrations to warn the rider of an approaching vehicle, or a possible unsaddling, using proximity sensors. Backed by Jaguar Land Rover, Arc has quite a few models up its sleeve which it will introduce once the vector goes on sale.<\/p>\n

5. Vespa Electric<\/h2>\n

The Vespa is an icon of the scooter segment that represents the retro age. The Italian scooter manufacturer is racing ahead of the competition with the electric variant of its all too popular product. Claiming a range of over a hundred kilometres on a single full charge, the Vespa electric will surely win hearts with its new avatar all over again, but the company needs to work on pushing the battery output a lot further, or the competition would catch up and leave it behind.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
