Movies that are Relevant for Today’s Time<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Our country is going through some major changes currently. From economic slowdown, abrogation of article 370 of the constitution, to Citizenship Amendment Act we are witnessing a major shake-up of the core values of India such as secularism and egalitarianism and what not.<\/p>\n

Students have come out in dissent which led to vigilantism and violence in universities. Thousands of people have taken to the street in solidarity with the students and to show their disagreement against the law.<\/p>\n

Keeping the current political situation in mind, here are few Hindi films which are pertinent in today’s time, especially with reference to powers that be:<\/h2>\n

1. Nayak<\/h2>\n

Released in 2001, Nayak is a film which was made 20 years back and is still relevant today in so many grounds. That was a fictional world full of riots, demolition and downfall. Today that catastrophe seems to have turned into a reality. Starring Anil Kapoor as a common man and Amrish Puri as the Chief Minister, Nayak reminds the definition of democracy \u2013 of the people, by the people, for the people.<\/p>\n

2. Rang De Basanti – The Start of a Conversation<\/h2>\n

Rang De Basanti was released when patriotism was either outdated or there were films with hyper-patriotism. What this film has successfully done is it changed the perception of the youth who keeps away from politics.<\/p>\n

A dystopian drama which shows the implication of inter-caste marriage \u2013 where men are killed and women are sent in a concentration camp. It is shown to be a conglomerate world of \u201cAryavarta\u201d which intends to destroy the society on the basis of religion. Sounds familiar? That’s the fear.<\/p>\n

4. Raanjhnaa<\/h2>\n

Raanjhnaa<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Though problematic on various levels, Raanjhnaa depicts class and communal conflict which is dividing people and also the intellectual dissection between the youth of the country and contemporary India.<\/p>\n

5. Paan Singh Tomar<\/h2>\n

This is the story of a national level athlete who became famous as an outlaw in the Chambal Valley. When the authority becomes corrupt, their unscrupulousness forces a man to resort to violence.<\/p>\n
