Worth-watching Bollywood films of 2019<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The list-making season is here and the process becomes even more strenuous when the good films are just hand count. If we compare 2018 and 2019\u2019s scale on good Hindi films, 2018 wins the race with a paragon of films like Stree, Baadhaai Ho, Tumbbad<\/em> and Andhadhun<\/em>.<\/p>\n

However, Bollywood has made 10 per cent more business in 2019; the films released in this year still lacked a great deal of virtuosity and creative inspiration.<\/p>\n

Anyhow, overlooking such cataclysm, here is my list of top 10 Hindi films which has managed to keep our faith alive in Hindi cinema. Have a look!<\/h2>\n

1. The Sky is Pink<\/h2>\n

The Sky Is Pink starring Priyanka Chopra\u200e,\u200eFarhan Akhtar\u200e, \u200eZaira Wasim<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Based on a real-life story of a girl named Aisha Chowdhary who was born with an immunodeficiency disorder, Sky is Pink<\/em> deals with her impending death from her parent\u2019s perspective. Directed by Shonali Bose, the film is extremely well-written and has dealt with grief with extreme sensitivity.<\/p>\n

2. Photograph<\/h2>\n

An unusual love-story with an extremely unusual pair starring Sanya Malhotra and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Photograph<\/em> celebrates love between two people who are divided by class, creed, education and religion.<\/p>\n

3. Gully Boy<\/h2>\n

Bollywood Movie Gully Boy starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The 2019\u2019s official entry to the Academy awards, Zoya Akhtar\u2019s Gully Boy<\/em> is a whizz-kid which made its way to one of the critically acclaimed movies of the year. Starring Ranveer Singh, the film is about an aspiring rapper boy Murad from Dharavi of Mumbai.<\/p>\n

4. Judgementall Hain Kya<\/h2>\n

Judgementall Hai Kya is an intriguing thriller filled movie which is directed by Prakash Kovelmudi.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Directed by Prakash Kovelmudi, Judgementall Hain Kya<\/em> strives to question the preconceived notion of what\u2019s normal and what isn\u2019t. Starring Kangana Ranaut and Rajkumar Rao, the performances of the actors make it to the list of good films of 2019. Also, Ranaut\u2019s acting as a girl with acute psychosis deserves a special mention.<\/p>\n

5. Article 15<\/h2>\n

Bollywood Movie Article 15 starring Ayushmann Khurrana<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

A film like this was not considered as a \u201ccommercial\u201d film even five years back. But thanks to the gumption of filmmakers like Anubhav Sinha, Article 15<\/em> comes under the bracket of a profit-oriented movie which stars a successful actor like Ayushmann Khurrana in the lead. Set in a small town of Uttar Pradesh, Article 15<\/em> depicts the reality of the caste system and untouchability quite audaciously.<\/p>\n


\n6. Sonchiriya<\/h2>\n

Bollywood Movie Sonchiriya starring Bhumi Pednekar and Sushant Singh Rajput<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Directed and co-written by Abhishek Screwwala, Sonchiriya<\/em> talks about the dacoits of Chambal in 1975. Starring two of the most successful faces in Bollywood in today\u2019s time, Bhumi Pednekar and Sushant Singh Rajput, Sonchiriya<\/em> is an incongruous tale of doomed dacoits.<\/p>\n

7. Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga<\/h2>\n

Movie Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga starring Anil Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao and Juhi Chawla<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Released at the beginning of the year, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga<\/em> has managed to create a stir because of its subject; same-sex love. What has made it more special is its casting a conventionally successful actor like Sonam Kapoor to play the lead in the film. Though the film has received criticism on its schematic portrayal of gay love, it gave it a burl on talking about same-sex relationships without reducing it to sheer humour like many other Hindi films in the past.<\/p>\n

8. Badla<\/h2>\n

Bollywood Movie Badla starring Amitabh Bachchan and Tapsee Pannu<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Starring Amitabh Bachchan and Tapsee Pannu, Badla<\/em> is an official remake of Oriol Paulo\u2019s Spanish film \u2018The Invisible Guests\u2019. With very little changes in the Hindi version along with gender swap, the film got widely appreciated for its intelligent film making.<\/p>\n

9. Dream Girl<\/h2>\n

Bollywood Movie Dream Girl Ayushmann Khurrana and Nushrat Bharucha<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

If you watch Dream Girl<\/em> which falls under a rom-com genre, you will know how Hindi film has moved from its archetype of a romantic comedy. The dream girl played by Ayushmann Khurrana is a story of a man who is forced to play Sita in his town\u2019s Ramlila and what follows next is quirky and fun. Also a special shout out to Khurrana for doing drag on screen with respect.<\/p>\n

10. Saand Ki Aankh<\/h2>\n

Bollywood Movie Saand Ki Aankh starring Tapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Based on two sexagenarian real life shooter dadis<\/em>, Chandro and Prakashi Tomar, on-screen the roles were well essayed by two younger actors Bhumi Pednekar and Tapsee Pannu. Though the film has received its share of criticism for ageism, the film still celebrates womanhood and sisterhood which are a fable in the society.<\/p>\n
