Post Results:<\/strong> In the state Assembly elections 2020, Parlad Singh Sawhney of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won from Chandni Chowk with a vote margin of over 50,891 votes. He was contesting election against Suman Kumar Gupta of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and Alka Lamba of the Congress.<\/p>\n

Chandni Chowk Assembly Constituency is a part of the Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha constituency. This is considered as an important assembly seat by all the political parties. This area is mostly dominated by the business community.<\/p>\n

Chandni Chowk Assembly seat has always been a Congress stronghold. It was won by Parlad Singh Sawhney of the Indian National Congress (INC) four times (1998, 2003, 2008, and 2013). In 2015, the seat was snatched by the Aam Aadmi Party\u2019s (AAP) Alka Lamba (who was earlier associated with Congress). While Alka Lamba rejoined her old party (Indian National Congress) in 2019, four-time Congress MLA Parlad Singh Sawhney joined AAP in October 2019.<\/p>\n

In the 2020 Delhi Vidhan Sabha election, Alka Lamba (contesting this year on a Congress ticket) will have to contest against AAP contestant Parlad Singh Sawhney.     \u00a0–<\/strong> He contested his first election back in 1977 from the Mori Gate ward but lost by just 100 votes.<\/p>\n

    \u00a0–<\/strong> She started her political career in 1994 as a 19-year old girl with Indian National Congress\u2019 student wing National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) and quickly became Delhi State Girl Convener.<\/p>\n

    \u00a0–<\/strong> In 1995, Alka became the President of Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU).<\/p>\n

    \u00a0–<\/strong> In 1996, she became the All India Girl Convener for NSUI.<\/p>\n

She founded India Foundation (an NGO) in 2006 to empower women and youth in participating in the development of India politically, socially, and economically. Her organization\u2019s feat of collecting blood from more than 65,000 people from around 250 districts of India during 63rd Independence Day of India (August 15, 2010) was a feat in itself. Bollywood celebrities like Salman Khan, Amir Khan, Dia Mirza, and Ritesh Deshmukh were part of the campaign, which was also lauded by Russian Ambassador to India Alexander Kadakin.<\/p>\n
