He was contesting election against Suman Kumar Gupta of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and Alka Lamba of the Congress.

Key Facts of Chandni Chowk Assembly Constituency and its Top Candidates for Delhi Assembly Election:

Chandni Chowk Assembly Constituency is a part of the Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha constituency. This is considered as an important assembly seat by all the political parties. This area is mostly dominated by the business community.

Chandni Chowk Assembly seat has always been a Congress stronghold. It was won by Parlad Singh Sawhney of the Indian National Congress (INC) four times (1998, 2003, 2008, and 2013). In 2015, the seat was snatched by the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Alka Lamba (who was earlier associated with Congress). While Alka Lamba rejoined her old party (Indian National Congress) in 2019, four-time Congress MLA Parlad Singh Sawhney joined AAP in October 2019.

In the 2020 Delhi Vidhan Sabha election, Alka Lamba (contesting this year on a Congress ticket) will have to contest against AAP contestant Parlad Singh Sawhney. While Alka Lamba won the 2015 assembly election, Parlad Singh Sawhney won the seat four times (1998, 2003, 2008, and 2013). The other contestants in the fray are BJP’s Suman Kumar Gupta and BSP’s Sudesh Saroliya.

The 2020 Chandni Chowk Assembly Constituency election details:

<colgroup>
<col width="304" />
<col width="304" /> </colgroup>

Date of Election

February 8

Date of Result Announcement

February 11

Chandni Chowk Assembly Constituency: Snapshot

Delhi’s Chandni Chowk Assembly Constituency was created in 2008 by reorganization under the Delimitation Commission.

It is part of the Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha constituency.
