How can light travel at a speed of 186282 miles per second? How do plants grow when we water them? or, How is it possible that there is life on one planet and not on the other? The answer behind all these questions is science. From learning the basic principle behind why an apple falls on the ground from tree to learning about complex elements found in the atmosphere, science is more than what you have thought of.

It has always been a subject of the highest notions that can only suit intelligent minds. But there is one place that can make anyone fall in love with this complex yet intriguing subject. It is the National Science Centre in New Delhi. It is a science museum set up with an aim of inculcating scientific awareness among people and to evoke interest in the field of science.

About the National Science Centre

Located on the main Bhairon road near Pragati Maidan, this science museum was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister of India, P V Narasimha Rao on January 9, 1992. The National Science Centre is a constituent part of the National Council of Science Museums, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Culture. Since its opening, the centre has been rendering phenomenal services for popularisation of science among people. Various educational programmes and interesting exhibitions are organised by the centre for the interest of the students, teachers and those who are interested in science. It also provides teacher training to support education at the school as well as college level.

The building of the National Science Centre has eight levels with seven galleries and several other sections for all age groups. It also houses a library, a planetarium, a cafeteria, conference halls and a cyber school which conducts short-term courses for students as well as teachers. The premises of the building is fully equipped and air conditioned. The auditorium, which can accommodate around 320 people at a time, can also be used by other organisations at a nominal charge.

Major Science Exhibition Galleries at the National Science Centre are Listed Below:

– Development of Travelling Exhibition on ‘TRADITIONAL MEDICINE’

– Energy Ball

– Water: The Elixir of Life

– Our Science & Technology Heritage Gallery

– Human Biology Gallery

– Pre – Historic Life Gallery

– Fun Science Gallery

-Hall of Nuclear Power Gallery

– Information Revolution Gallery

– Sardar Patel Gallery

– Emerging Technologies Gallery

The National Science Centre has been instrumental in the making of some very brilliant science scholars.
