Ranbir Kapoor Biography

Ranbir Kapoor is an Indian Bollywood actor. Born on 28th September 1982, Ranbir Kapoor is the son of yesteryears actors Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, and the grandson of famous actor and filmmaker Raj Kapoor. Ranbir was born in a Punjabi origin family.

He completed his schooling from Bombay Scottish School in Mahim, Mumbai in Maharashtra and further pursued Method Acting at The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York. Before starting his acting career, Ranbir Kapoor appeared in two short films: “Passion to Love” and “India 1964”. He then began working with director Sanjay Leela Bhansali as an assistant. He assisted in the making of the film “Black”.

In 2007, Ranbir Kapoor made his acting career debut with the film “Saawariya” opposite newcomer Sonam Kapoor. The film was directed by Bhansali, but failed to do well on the box office. However, Ranbir’s performance made him win the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut for this film. In 2008, he was seen in Siddharth Anand’s “Bachna Ae Haseeno” alongside Bipasha Basu, Minissha Lamba and Deepika Padukone. The film was a semi-hit at the box-office.

In 2009, Ranbir Kapoor appeared in three movies. The first release was Ayan Mukerji’s “Wake Up Sid”, in which he stared opposite Konkona Sen Sharma; the film was a commercial success. The second was “Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani”, in which he starred alongside Katrina Kaif. It was one of the biggest hits of the year. The third was Shimit Amin’s “Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year”. These performances made him win Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor and he got nominated for Filmfare Best Actor Award too.

In 2010, Ranbir featured in Prakash Jha’s multi-starrer political thriller “Rajneeti”. The film was stated as a blockbuster at the box office. His performance was well received and it was his biggest commercial success film till date. The same year, he appeared in Siddharth Anand’s “Anjaana Anjaani” alongside Priyanka Chopra which was a fair box office success.

In 2011, Ranbir Kapoor featured in Imtiaz Ali’s “Rockstar” opposite newcomer Nargis Fakhri. His spectacular performance earned him a Best Actor award and Best Actor (Critics) award at the 57th Filmfare Awards. By now Ranbir had established himself as one of the leading contemporary actors of bollywood cinema.

In September 2012, Ranbir appeared in Anurag Basu’s “Barfi!” alongside Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D’Cruz. The film got him excellent reviews from critics and the audience loved him for his role as a deaf-mute boy. As of now, Ranbir Kapoor is scheduled to appear in Ayan Mukherjee’s “Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani”, Abhinav Kashyap’s “Besharam” and Anurag Kashyap’s “Bombay Velvet” in the coming year.
