Rati Agnihotri is an Indian yesteryears actress. She has worked in Hindi, Kannada, Tamil and Telugu films.
Early Life
Agnihotri was born on 10 December 1960 in a punjabi family and spent most of her early life in Bareilly Uttar Pradesh. She was a teenager when she with her family shifted to Madras, Tamil Nadu because of her father’s job. She attended Good Shepherd’s Convent School and also acted in a school play there.
Career
Sixteen-year-old Rati Agnihotri made her debut with Tamil film Puthiya Vaarpugal, directed by Bharathiraja. The film became a blockbuster and Rati received her second film assignment from Bharatraja for Niram Maaratha Pookkal. Eventually, she started acting in Telugu and Kannada films as well and did 32 films in three years.
She did many films with Kamal Hassan. She also starred in more than 43 Hindi films. Agnihotri worked with megastars like Amitabh Bacchan and Dharmendra.

She took a break from her career and concentrated in raising her son. However, after a gap of 16 years, she came back to the industry with her film Kuch Khatti Kuch Meethi as Kajol’s glamourous mother. She did some Hindi and Malyalam films. She made her English debut with An Ode to Lost Love (2003) and Bengali debut with Aaina-te (2008). She also acted in plays like Please Divorce Me Darling (2005) and television serials, like Sixer (2005).
Personal Life
She married businessman and architect Anil Virwani on 9 February 1985. The couple’s only son Tanuj Virwani was born on 28 November 1986. She left acting on the peak of her career and focussed on raising her son and also helped her husband with architectural creations. Agnihotri separated from her husband after 30 years of marriage and accused him of physical assault.
