Trivendra Singh Rawat is the present chief minister of Uttarakhand.<\/p>\n
Rawat was an active member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh during the period 1979 to 2002. He was the organising secretary of the Uttarakhand region. In the State’s first legislative assembly elections in 2002, he was elected from Doiwala constituency. Retaining seat in the 2007 elections, he served as the Minister of Agriculture in Uttarakhand.<\/p>\n
As a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, he held the post of Uttarakhand cadre’s president and Jharkhand’s in-charge. In 2017, he again won from Doiwala and was named the chief minister of the state as BJP won majority.<\/p>\n
Born in December 1960 in Khairasain village of the Kotdwar tehsil, in Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand, Rawat was the youngest child in the family. He completed his master’s degree in journalism from Birla Campus in Srinagar.<\/p>\n
Rawat joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in 1979 and became its pracharak in 1985 for the Dehradun region. Eventually, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He played an active and vital role in the Uttarakhand movement, and even was arrested many times. After Uttarakhand was declared a state in 2000 he became the state cadre’s BJP president.
