On 19 May Suresh Prabhu, the Union Railway Minister of India, undertook an inspection of Tejas Express, an upcoming train to be operated on the route between Mumbai and Goa, at Safdarjung station in Delhi. On 18 May Rail Coach Factory, a manufacturing unit of Indian Railways that deals in coaches, introduced the first rake of the 19 coaches of said express. Incidentally, Indian Railways is one of the biggest employers in the world. The new train is said to be able to cover speeds of more than 200 km per hour and the coaches are supposed to be equipped with a wide range of facilities.
Facilities on Tejas
The coaches are expected to have television sets with LCD (liquid crystal display) screens and the seats are expected to be of the redesigned variety as well. There would be CCTV (close circuit television camera) cameras as well apart from automatic doors. Along with these, you would be able to enjoy personalized infotainment systems. The fire alarm system on these coaches is expected to be of the advanced variety. Just as Shatabdi and Rajdhani trains, this train would have its own catering service as well. Cuisine is expected to be designed by celebrity chefs.
Some important information
Tejas Express happens to be a much-awaited one and is expected to kick off from 22 May. Apart from the facilities that have been mentioned already, the train would also be equipped with tea and coffee vending machines. The train will also be fitted with bio-vacuum toilets. The passenger information display system on this train will be based on GPS (global positioning system) technology. As the train has been fitted with high-class facilities its fares are going to be a tad bit on the higher side as well. It will be higher than the normal mail and express trains.
Facilities galore
With redesigned seats you can be sure that the sitting arrangement would be quite comfortable and along with LED TVs the seats will also be fitted with call bell facilities and touch control systems. The coaches have been made at the Kapurthala facility of the Rail Coach Factory. In fact, the automatic entrance doors are said to be the first such facility in a non-suburban train operated by Indian Railways. Each coach will be fitted with snacks tables as well. Along with the coffee and tea vending machines, these services are parts of the catering facilities being offered in these trains.
Promises being met
Tejas Express had been promised in the recent union budget. Railways have also stated that the train would be running in the Delhi-Chandigarh and Delhi-Lucknow sectors. In spite of its capability to achieve speeds of more than 200 km per hour, the trains will not be running at more than 160 km since the rail tracks over here are not capable of withstanding speeds greater than that. This information has been provided by RP Nibaria, the General Manager of Rail Coach Factory (RCF). He has also stated that the new and better couplers are expected to make sure that you do not experience any jerk or discomfort of other sort in spite of the high speed at which the train will be travelling.
