Srinagar, the summer capital of the Jammu and Kashmir, is located in the Kashmir Valley on the banks of River Jhelum. It is situated on an average elevation of 1,585 square kilometres. Typically referred to as "Paradise on Earth", it is well known for its lakes, houseboats, gardens, handicrafts and dry fruits.
Tourist Attractions in Srinagar
Srinagar has several tourist places, most of them are offerings of nature. The most famous is the Dal Lake, which has many houseboats. There are many picturesque Mughal gardens in Srinagar and a few monuments of historical importance. As a tourist one has many attractions to visit in Srinagar, a few of them are:

How to Reach Srinagar
Being the summer capital of the state, Srinagar can be reached easily. Many people travel from Jammu to Srinagar by bus or taxi. Foreign travellers need to register when they arrive in Srinagar.

The Srinagar railway station serves the city to just up to Baramulla and Banihal. Once completed it will connect to rest of India, for now, Jammu is the closest railway junction from where one to connect to rest of the country.

Srinagar is well connected by National Highway number 1A and 1D. The Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (JKSRTC) operates regular bus services from Jammu to Srinagar. Private bus and taxis are available too.
Air
Air
The Srinagar Airport serves the city with regular flights to Delhi, Jammu, Leh, Mumbai, Indore, Nagpur, Chandigarh, Amritsar and Bangalore. Flights are operated by Air India, GoAir, IndiGo, Jet Airways, JetKonnect and SpiceJet.
