Om Banna (aka Bullet Baba) Shrine, Pali-Jodhpur Highway

Forty kilometers from Jodhpur, on the Pali-Jodhpur National Highway 65, is a shrine devoted to Om Banna aka Bullet Baba. People of Jodhpur and nearby cities believe a lot in him and worship him whenever they pass through his shrine on the highway. It has a very interesting story attached to it. Om Banna was a person who loved his 350cc Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycle a lot but he met with an accident in 1988 in which he lost his life at the place where his shrine is right now.

The police took the bike in their custody and kept it in the police station. Next morning, the bike was found at the same spot where the accident happened, but the police thought it to be a prank of someone. They again brought the bike to the police station and next morning, the same thing happened. People thought it to be some magical power of Om Banna and then his bike was kept there only in glass case and people worship it now. His bike can hardly be seen now as it is fully covered by strings tied by people who have prayed here for their safe journey.

I had heard about it before and wanted to visit it. I took a break from cycling & stopped by for food in a restaurant on the opposite side of the road. I saw the crowd on the opposite side and thought it to be some temple but a little later when I read the police station board there which stated Om Banna, then I realized that I had reached where I wanted to be. People offer liquor bottles in the form of “prasad” to the picture of Om Banna.

It is no less than a temple where people worship with full faith in Om Banna and pray for their safe journey. It is said that people who do not stop by and pray here meet an accident. I do not know how true that is but I did my part of praying at Om Banna but did not have any liquor bottle to offer!
