Cycle Ride to Leh

We were quite happy as we knew Leh is just 35 kilometers from where we were staying. The sun was already up and it became very hot. We sweated while packing the tents. We had “paranthas” before leaving and filled our bottles with cold hand pump water. I really liked the taste of water there. We left at 10:30 am from Karu. Whole route from Karu to Leh was inhabited. There were many villages which [...]Read More

Debring to Karu journey (103 kilometers) on 13th June was full of events. Weather was not giving us positive vibes to leave from Debring and that day, we had to cross the highest pass on Manali to Leh highway, Taglang La (5328 meters). Taglang La is also the second highest pass in the world, after Khardung La in Leh. I got us 10 “aloo paranthas” packed for the journey as I knew we would require [...]Read More

We got up, packed up, had food but could not leave early. It’s been a first time in my whole trip from Kanyakumari that bad weather has kept me inside and inhibited my early departure. I could see heavy snowfall on mountain peaks far away and it was slowly becoming worse. Mild snowfall occurred in Pang as well and we had to park our cycles under the roof as our luggage was already on it [...]Read More

That day was incredible for us that took us 84 kilometres ahead from Sarchu and we crossed Gata Loops, Nakee La and Lachung La. All decisions were made but my coming face-to-face with a very critical situation could have resulted in my cycle and me dropping down into the valley from the mountain. We started from Sarchu at 08:30 am after packing 10 chapatis for lunch and crossed Whiskey Bridge soon. The road was in a good condition and [...]Read More

I was feeling quite good after getting up as my body got acclimatized to the high altitude. I was making use of my mountaineering skills to keep myself and my friends fit at this height. We had boiled eggs for breakfast and took a bread packet for lunch from Zingzingbar itself and left around 8 in the morning. Baralacha Pass was about 12 kilometers from our starting point for that day at the height of [...]Read More

We got up in the morning and it was really very cold. Water kept outside in our bottles was partly frozen. We could not take water in our mouths as it was very cold. One of my friends was not well and I guess he was having some problem with the high altitude. We reached this high altitude too fast and we thought we should take some time to acclimatize. We did not know how [...]Read More

We left Tandi which is at the junction of two rivers at 7:40 am and started on our day’s journey. Keylong was just 08 kilometers from Tandi but reaching there was delayed because of a puncture in the cycle of one of my friend. It was not exactly a puncture but a long cut at the point where tube is joined. Same thing happened with him when he was cycling from Manali to Marhi. He [...]Read More

As I will be cycling with 3 other friends of mine now, we packed up our tents & left for our further journey after having breakfast at a nearby hut at Marhi only. Tourists have already arrived there from Manali to enjoy the snow and I could see long line of jam-packed vehicles down on road and I was thinking of the situation if I would have got stuck in that scenario. I usually do not [...]Read More

After a month of waiting, finally Manali to Leh highway got opened. This year it opened very late because of uncertain weather conditions and with snow falling on mountain passes till May end. Border Road Organisation earlier told that they would open the route by 30th April but no one can escape nature’s fury and they were helpless too. Now I could begin further on my cycling journey and complete my Kanyakumari to Leh cycling [...]Read More

I was really excited today as I was about to reach Manali and from there, Leh is 475 kilometers and I would be cycling on the most sought after adventurous route by riders from all over the world as they throng in Manali to go to Leh or vice-versa on their bullets and other high end bikes. I came across beautiful apple orchards after Kullu on my way. Although apples were not there on trees [...]Read More
