Kunar is an eastern province of Afghanistan, located on the border with Pakistan. The province lies in the mountainous Hindu Kush region and is characterized by rugged topography, narrow valleys, and forest areas. Asadabad is the capital and administrative centre of Kunar. The province occupies a strategically important location due to its close proximity to the Pakistan border and is situated in various mountain valleys.
Kunar is bordered by Nuristan Province to the north and north-western side, Laghman Province to the west and south-western side, and Nangarhar Province to the southern side.
