A world map can be defined as a representation of Earth, as a whole or in parts, usually on a flat surface. This is made using different types of map projections (methods) like Mercator, Transverse Mercator, Robinson, Lambert Azimuthal Equal Area, Miller Cylindrical, to name a few. The creation of the world map has been the result of our quest to seek more knowledge about our Earth. The World Map is a three-dimensional depiction of Earth on a two-dimensional plane. World Maps are tools which provide us with varied information about any region of the globe and capture our world in different groups like Ocean Maps (shows the location of oceans), mountain maps (indicates location, name and height of mountains and hills). Similarly, travel maps, continents, country boundaries and many other theme maps have been made available.
World maps are essentially physical or political. The political world map shows different territorial borders of countries. In contrast, the physical world map displays geographical feature like mountains, land use, water bodies, vegetations, soil type and many other features.
