Blasts on Express Train at Chennai Railway Station
Two blasts occurred on the Bangalore-Guwahati Express at the Chennai Central Railway Station around 7:15 a.m. today, claiming one life and injuring nine. As per media reports, the bombs exploded between the train’s S4 and S5 coaches.
The bombs were planted under one of the seats of the train and exploded while the train was at Platform 9 at the station for a 10-minute halt. Reportedly, 22-year-old Swati, the passenger under whose seat the blasts took place, died on the spot. Two passengers have been critically wounded while seven have suffered minor injuries.
The cause of the blasts has not been identified yet; however, a senior railway officer has stated that the two blasts were of low intensity. To probe into the details of the nature and cause of the blasts, a team of the National Investigation Agency has been directed to the site.
Compensation of INR 1 lakh rupees has been announced by the state government for the family of the dead woman while the victims with critical injuries will be given an amount of INR 55,000.
