Fire in Bangalore Nanded Express

In a tragic development near the Kothacheruvu railway station in Andhra Pradesh, the Bangalore-Nanded Express (Train No. 16594) caught fire which claimed 23 lives. Among the casualties are two school children. The incident happened in the Anantapur district early this morning.


The fire first started in the B1 coach of the train and was noticed by the driver who halted near the Kothacheruvu railway station. The train was to reach Anantapur by 4:30 a.m. As estimated by the railway authorities, the fire is likely to have started around 3:20 a.m.

The rescue authorities said, “The fire is being doused. The bodies will be brought out once the smoke subsides a little. We are expecting at least 23 casualties, although the exact figure can be given only after the rescue operation is over.”

The actual toll could be higher as several people are critically injured and have been rushed to nearby hospitals.
