Movie plot: The Bollywood horror movies have a clichéd construct when it comes to supernatural elements – creaky chairs, unknown sounds making prophecies, flickering lights, and plastic dolls with bleeding eyes. Well, Lupt is no exception; it is the story about Tandon family and their road trip which turns into a spooky nightmare when the family is attacked by strange entities arriving in their way. Harsh Tandon (Javed Jaffrey), the commander in chief of  Tandon Group of Industries, is a business tycoon who suffers from chronic insomnia. Owing to his sleep disorder he starts seeing the supernatural elements which don’t exist around him. His psychiatrist advises him to take a break from work. So, Harsh with his dutiful wife (Niki Walia), daughter (Meenakshi Dixit), his prankster son (Rishabh Chadha), and her daughter’s photographer boyfriend (Karan Anand) heads for Nainital. Things get spooky when a forced detour leads them to a lonely dark place and at the same time their car breaks down. From there begins the end which is inevitable.

Movie Review: If we talk about the horrific elements in the movie, the setup is decent. But the movie appears repetitive at points when the ghostly figures are shown and mysterious circumstances start unfolding. The scary part in the film doesn’t exist. The suspense, too, is weak and doesn’t appear scary at all rather the movie appears almost humorous at times. Unnecessary moving of objects, amplified sounds, and scary makeup doesn’t appear to be at par in the movie.

Coming to the performances of the actors, only Javed Jafri and ghosts in the film appear credible rest the supporting cast hasn’t done really well. The movie is not up to the mark when it comes to performances.

Our verdict: Lupt has hardly any new element or horror in it. The extremely fragile screenplay and an unappealing story make it a complete havoc.  Watch it only if you are a true fan of Javed Jaffrey.
