In the past few years, the colleges of Delhi University have outshined all colleges in India. As per the latest National Institute of Ranking Framework (NIRF), More than the top 20 Colleges belong to the prestigious Delhi University.

Established in 1922, the University of Delhi is home to 72 colleges affiliated to it, offering numerous courses in various fields. The University has carved a niche in providing high-quality education and has emerged as a center of excellence.

Here are the top 10 colleges of Delhi University:

1. Miranda House

Miranda House is one of the most renowned colleges in the country. Located in the North Campus of Delhi University, it is one of the top-grade women’s colleges which was established back in 1948. Major courses offered in this college are BA English (Honors), BA Economics (Honors), and BSc. Chemistry (Hons) and BA Political Science (Honors). The annual fest of Miranda College- Tempest is one of the most buzzing fests of Delhi University. The crowd of this college is enlivened and extraordinary in several fields including academics and humanities.

2. Hindu College

Hindu College is one of the most prestigious in the country and is affiliated with the University of Delhi. The college offers UG and PG programmes in sciences, commerce, social sciences and humanities. It was established in 1899, The notable alumnus of the Hindu college are Gautam Gambhir, Rekha Bhardwaj, Vishal Bhardwaj, Imtiaz Ali, Tisca Chopra, Aakash Chopra, Meenakshi Lekhi and Manoj Kumar.

3. Lady Shri Ram College for Women

It is one of the oldest colleges of Delhi University, Lady Shri Ram College for Women (LSR) was established in the year 1965. Initially, it had only 243 girl students, 9 faculty members and 4 other employees. The campus of this college is spread over 15 acres in South Delhi. It has about 2000 girl students, more than 150 faculty members, and administrative and support staff.  At present, more than 16 different types of courses are taught in this college.  Also enriched with a collection of 120,000 books, 5,000 online journals and 150 house journals, this college library is one of the largest college libraries in Delhi. To take admission in the BA and MA courses of Lady Shri Ram College for Women, the candidate has to pass some important criteria of the college according to the different subjects.

4. Atma Ram Sanatan Dharm College

Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College is a co-educational college affiliated to the University of Delhi.  Earlier its name was ‘Sanatan Dharma College’.  It was established on 3 August 1959 by the Sanatan Dharma Sabha of Delhi.  Noted philanthropist Shri Atma Ram Chadha became the Chairman of its Governing Committee in 1967. The college offers great study and campus to the students.

5. Kirori Mal College

Kirori Mal College is another high-grade college of the University of Delhi. Apart from this, it is best known for counting the megastar Amitabh Bachchan as its alumnus. Established in 1954, the college offers courses like BA Economics (Hons), B.Com (Honors), BSc. Botany (Honors) and BA Geography (Honors). The placement cell of this college is extremely active and is able to fetch placements from all top-notch companies like Reliance, Deloitte, and American Express.

6. St. Stephens College

A center of attraction for various writers including Chetan Bhagat, St. Stephens College is a brand in itself. It is at the top when it comes to naming the star colleges of Delhi University. St. Stephens is known for both its science and humanities courses. The courses offered by this college are numerous. However, BSc. Maths (Honors), BA Economics (Honors), BSc. Chemistry (Honors), and BSc. Physics (Honors) are the most popular courses. Kabil Sibal, Shashi Tharoor, and Barkha Dutt are some of the noteworthy alumni of this college. St. Stephens is one of the most difficult colleges to get into because of its sky-high cut-offs.

7. Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC)

This college was established by Late Shri Ram Ji in the year 1926.  This college used to be in Daryaganj Old Delhi till 1957, at present it is situated in the southern campus of the University of Delhi.  The special feature of this college is that there are only two subjects of graduation. 1 commerce, 2 economics. It has a very expensive fee structure and a reputed campus.

8. Hansraj College

Commonly known as Shah Rukh Khan’s College, Hansraj College has a long list of notable alumni like Anurag Kashyap and Ranvijay Singh. Well-known for its great infrastructure, lush green gardens and also the quality of education, the college has an equally famous ‘lover’s point’. The college is also famous for its co-curricular activities and extraordinary fests. Major courses offered at Hansraj college are B.Com. (Honors), BA Economics (Honors), BSc. Chemistry (Honors), BSc. Botany (Honors), and BSc. Physics (Honors).

9. Sri Venkateswara College

Established in 1961, this college is counted among the top 5 colleges of Delhi.  The college has a world-class cricket ground and cricket club, whose members have been players like Ajay Jadeja, Manoj Prabhakar and Ajay Sharma.  Apart from the mainstream courses, the college also offers add-on courses in Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Travel and Tourism.  The Aalap Music Society, Nitya Dance Society are quite good here.  Every year many students are placed in good companies through the placement cell of the college.  Big companies like Google, Tata, Maruti Udyog hire college students. It also offers vocational courses along with regular courses.

10. Lady Irwin College

Lady Irwin College was established in 1932 as a member college of the University of Delhi for women. To maintain excellent educational standards, the college’s teaching team employs scholastic techniques and course formats. The college provides an internationally competitive curriculum to encourage student talent and innovation.
