This urad dal is generally made a bit dry with a nice onion tadka on the top. It goes well in any of the main course with roti and other curries and has its own distinct taste. Ingredients needed for Tadka Urad Dal
Dhuli urad dal – 2 cup
Water – 4 cup
Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Ginger – 1 tsp (grated)
Garlic – 1 tsp (cut in small pieces)
Desi ghee – 2 tsp
Desi Ghee – 3 tbsp
Zeera – 1 tsp
Onion – 2 (cut in large strands)
Dry red chili – 4
How to make Tadka Urad Dal
Preparation time: 10 min.
Cooking time: 20 min.
Wash and soak the dal in water for about half and hour before preparation.
Add dal with water, turmeric powder, salt, ginger, garlic and ghee in a pressure pan and cook for 2 whistles.
Heat ghee in a tadka pan, add zeera and when it starts to crackle, add onions.
Fry till they are brown and crispy.
Add dry red chilies and red chili powder and cook for about a min.
Pour the tadka over the dal.
