After a long session of controversies and snags, the much awaited movie Goliyon ki Rasleela Ram-Leela finally hit the silver screen. Ram-Leela marks come-back of the one of the most talented directors of the industry, Sanjay Leela Bhansali. After Guzaarish (2010), Bhansali returns tenaciously with a film that claims to be the closest to his heart. An adaption of William Shakespeare’s classic love story Romeo and Juliet, Ram-Leela is set against the back-drop of hatred, violence and enmity between two feuding families.

Plot: The film narrates the tale of Ram and Leela, belonging to two disputing clans, who fall in love amidst the long prevailing enmity between their families.

Performances: Sanjay Leela Bhansali has definitely chosen the most suitable actors for the role of Ram-Leela. Ranveer Singh is the perfect Ram with conviction and demeanor in his character. Right from his entry till the end, he is absolutely outstanding in every bit. His acting skills had already been praised Lootera, but Ram-Leela makes him a true star.

With Deepika Padukone looking gorgeously beautiful and hot in the film, it will be hard to decide whom to look at. She has managed to keep up with the brilliance of her co-star, as the perfect Leela. There is no doubt about the fact that actress has greatly improved upon her acting skills with every movie.

Ram-Leela has definitely triggered a passionate chemistry between the two which is very much visible on-screen. The scintillating chemistry between the couple is probably the best thing about the movie.

But the film the film wouldn’t have been substantial without the strong performances delivered by the actors like Supriya Pathak, Richa Chadha and Barkha Bisht. Their contribution and sincerity towards their respective roles is worth praising.

Music: Sanjay Leela Bhansali has always been cautious about his film’s music. In fact, it is said that his films are written based on the soundtracks. Yet again, Bhansali has managed to create an extremely melodious sound-track for Ram-Leela. With ten beautifully written songs, the album turns out be very soulful and mystical. The entire soundtrack deserves to be heard again and again!

What’s good: Passionate performances by the stars, sizzling chemistry between the Ranveer and Deepika and a brilliant music score are the plus points of the film. The colorful costumes and visuals need special mention.

What’s bad: The first half appears to be lengthy while the second half gets a bit dreary.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali is known for creating magic with his films. Ram-Leela, though, is not as magical as Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam but is definitely captivating enough. Even with its flaws, it manages to grab your attention with the perfect execution and screenplay. The story is nothing exceptional but the novelty in adaptation is good. Watch Ram-Leela precisely for Ranveer and Deepika but keep your expectations low!

Verdict: This unique Rasleela is violently passionate!
