Plot:

How many times do we come across a story where a boy loves girl and girl loves another boy. But, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga has a twist, the girl doesn’t love a boy but a girl! You’re in for a ride how Sweety (Sonam K Ahuja) comes out of the closet. It all starts when a Sahil Mirza (Rajkummar Rao) caught fancy… to Sweety and chases her. The first half of the story mainly revolves around his courtship. But, one day it all ends with a wonderful dialogue of Sweety – ‘Zaroori hai kya mujhe ek munde se hi pyar ho?’ and ‘Main ek ladki se pyaar karti hoon. Period’. How the typical dramatic Punjabi family, consisting of Beeji, Papaji, and Veerji, deals with it is worth a watch. The second half is about family’s coming to the term with their daughter’s homosexuality. Quite stirring!

Movie Review:

The Bollywood is testing water in domains it has never before. This coming of age movie about same-sex love is really opening gates to the genre. Although, not a very serious treatment of the subject – the movie keeps it light – is able to get its point across. The whole episode of father accepting her daughter for who she is really moving. The movie also beautifully covers the journey of a woman trapped by her emotions and then liberation from all the restraints, leading her to live her life on her own terms.

Our Verdict:

The new-age romance is surely an eye-opener for all those who welcome and despise this essential part of our society. So, if you ask us our opinion, we say do go watch it. It’s kind of par for the course in today’s times.
