Mentioned below are the Indian movies that have been nominated for Oscars 2023:

Chhello Show

“Chhello Show” is a Gujarati-language coming-of-age tale about a young boy’s love affair with cinema in the village of Saurashtra. The film is popular as the “Last Film Show” in English-speaking countries. Produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur and Dheer Momaya, “Chhello Show” has been included on the shortlist for worldwide feature films, alongside 14 other movies such as “Argentina, 1985” from Argentina, “Decision to Leave” from South Korea, “All Quiet on the Western Front” from Germany, and “The Blue Caftan” from Morocco, as stated on the Academy’s official website.

RRR’s Naatu Naatu

The famous Telugu song “Naatu Naatu” from SS Rajamouli’s epic film “RRR” has been nominated for three prestigious international awards and has been shortlisted for Best Music (Original Song). The film revolves around the lives of two real-life Indian rebels from the 1920s, Alluri Sitarama Raju (Ram Charan) and Komaram Bheem (Jr NTR), and tells a fictional pre-independence story about them.

“Naatu Naatu” will be competing for the award with other nominated songs such as “Nothing Is Lost (You Give Me Strength)” from “Avatar: The Way of Water,” “Lift Me Up” from “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” “Ciao Papa” from “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio,” “Hold My Hand” from “Top Gun: Maverick,” and “Carolina” from “Where the Crawdads Sing.”

All That Breathes

The well-known Hindi film “All That Breathes,” produced with international collaboration, competes for a slot in the top five of the best documentary feature category. The movie is set in Delhi and follows the story of two brothers named Mohammad Saud and Nadeem Shehzad, who have dedicated their lives to rescuing and caring for injured birds, with a particular focus on Black Kites.

“All That Breathes” has already won the Golden Eye award for Best Documentary at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival and the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize: Documentary at the Sundance Film Festival. This festival celebrates independent cinema and supports filmmakers.

The Best Documentary Feature category includes 14 other shortlisted nominees, namely “Bad Axe”, “All the Beauty and the Bloodshed,” “Children of the Mist,” “Descendant,” “Fire of Love,” “Hallelujah: Leonard Cohen, a Journey, a Song,” “Hidden Letters,” “A House Made of Splinters,” “Last Flight Home,” “The Janes,” “Moonage Daydream,” “Navalny,” “Retrograde,” and “The Territory.”

The Elephant Whisperers

Kartiki Gonsalves’ documentary “The Elephant Whisperers” showcases the strong relationship between two deserted elephants and their keepers. It was produced by Guneet Monga, who won an Academy Award for “Period. End of Sentence”. To be among the top five, the Tamil film must compete against “The Flagmakers,” “Nuisance Bear,” “Shut Up and Paint,” “Anastasia,” “Angola Do You Hear Us? Voices from a Plantation Prison,” and nine other documentary shorts in its category.
