Date of Birth: Javadekar was born on January 30, 1951. Place of Birth: He was born at Pune, Maharashtra. Parents: His father was Late Shri KK Javadekar and mother was Late Smt Rajani Javadekar. Spouse: He is married to Dr. Prachee Javadekar and they have 2 sons. Political Party: He is a member of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He is one of the official spokespersons of the party as well. Education: Javadekar completed his B.Com (Bachelor of Commerce) (Honours) from the University of Pune. Career: He worked with Bank of Maharashtra for 10 years from 1971-1981 in the rural development department and employment promotion programme etc. Apart from that, he has written 4 books in Marathi and more than 300 articles in different newspapers on various modern-day issues. He has also written a number of booklets on political and economic issues such as unemployment, loan from IMF (International Monetary Fund), infiltration, etc. In fact, Javadekar became active in politics right from the time he was in college in Pune by virtue of being a member of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of BJP. Political Milestones: From 1990 to 2002 Javadekar was a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council. He represented the Pune Division Graduate Constituency at this time. He has been a Rajya Sabha MP (Member of Parliament) from Maharashtra on a number of occasions – from 2010 to 2014 from Maharashtra, from June 13, 2014 to April 2, 2018 from MP (Madhya Pradesh), and from April 3, 2018 onwards from Maharashtra again. He served as the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs from May 26, 2014 to November 9, 2014. From July 6, 2016 to May 30, 2019, he served as the Union Minister of Human Resource Development. From May 26, 2014 to July 5, 2016, he served his first term as the Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. He has been incumbent on that post from May 30, 2019. From May 26, 2014 to November 9, 2014, he also served his first term as the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting. He was appointed to that post again on May 31, 2019. He has served as President of GLOBE (Global Legislators Organization for Balanced Environment) India. He was a Chairman of the Maharashtra government’s IT (information Technology) task force from 1990 to 2002. From 1995 to 1999, Javadekar was the Executive President of the State Planning Board Maharashtra. He has also served as the president of KCKU (Khadi Commission Karmachari Union) and NOINO (National Organization of Insurance Officers). In the year 2000, he was the Chairman of an Indian government working group named ‘IT for Masses’. He has also been a Waqf Committee member as well as member of a Committee of Subordinate Legislation and the Consultative Committee for Ministry of Power. He has served as a member of the Public Accounts Committee. Between 2008-2010, and then from 2012-2014, he was a member of the Standing Committee on Defence. From October 2011, he has been a member of the Committee on the Implementation of the Right to Information Act.
