The upcoming Delhi assembly election is a prestigious one from many perspectives. AAP is expecting to get votes based on party’s development work after providing vital relief to the poor with its welfare schemes. The BJP and the Congress both are clueless and digging earth to hammer on AAP’s weak point. The saffron party has nothing in its kitty to entice voters except to raise scrapping Article 370, CAA, NRC or other core issues. The grand old party knows its limitation so concentrating like a surgeon on limited constituencies.
BJP rewards turncoats
The Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday released its candidates for Delhi Assembly polls in Tukde Tukde as the party announced its first list of 57 nominees for the upcoming February 8 assembly polls. The saffron party has circulated ticket to 11 SC candidates and four women as well. The BJP has brought a smile on the face of three Congress and one AAP leaders who jumped to BJP ship-Sanjay Singh, Surendra Singh Bittu, SC Vats of Congress and Anil Vajpayee of AAP.
No involvement in controversy
After 2015 stupendous victory by the AAP in Delhi election, Arvind Kejriwal had lost ground despite flagging off some of the social welfare programmes. After the disastrous performance in 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Kejriwal changed his stance like a mature batsman to regain form, decided to go all out to woo the voters. As a seasoned politician the Delhi CM wants to remain the cynosure of all eyes, never exposes himself and his balanced attitude in delivering statement keeps him away from any sort of controversy.
Shrewd politics
Kejriwal takes his steps with caution to keep every section satisfied. He had posted his photographs in performing yajana (sacrifice) and maintaining silence and keeping distance on the controversial CAA and NRC. Earlier Kejriwal supported the Union government’s move over Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, AAP government has decided to run the Teerth Yatra programme last year to win the heart of Delhites.
Kejriwal and RSS old ally
Of late a slogan had been written in one of the posters in Delhi- Modi for Centre, Kejriwal for Delhi undersigned by some BJP workers. Kejriwal has cordial relation with RSS long before.The Delhi CM started his political innings to give air of anti-corruption movement RSS had strong backing. The union of Kejriwal and RSS has made the task of BJP tougher to unseat the AAP government in Delhi.
Welfare schemes a boon
BJP and Congress both are finding hard to counter Aam Aadmi Party because AAP’s freebies such as free water, free electricity up to 200 units, free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh even in private hospitals, if government hospitals fail to provide treatment within 30 days, improvement in school education and infrastructure, free ride for women in DTC buses, mohalla clinics and so on. Kejriwal’s populist scheme has given him an edge over his political nemesis. In fact people of all walks of life are satisfied with the governance of Aam Aadmi Party.
Congress hopes for revival
What is the plan of the grand old party? The Congress party has been trying to restore parity and connecting with like-minded people. Therefore Congress leaders have been taking part in the ongoing anti-CAA protests particularly at Shaheen Bagh, met with the Jamia students. The party knows that Muslims votes can change the calculation in 15 constituencies in Delhi. The marginal revival of Congress can never be overruled.
Long wait for BJP
The BJP has been out of power in Delhi since 1998 when Sushma Swaraj government suffered a setback amidst soaring prices of vegetables particularly onions in the Delhi assembly polls. In 2013 BJP came close to form the government but remained short of the majority mark. Kejriwal’s political career took a ‘U’ turn in this election defeated three-time chief minister of Delhi Sheila Dikshit from New Delhi constituency and also sink the fate of Congress in Delhi.
Political activity has been getting inflamed with the coming closer to Delhi assembly polls. This is the time when leaders go door to door with folded hands and plea for votes. Before the polls, politicians visit or spend the night in the house of downtrodden of the society to prove their closeness with the poor. After the announcement of the election date politicians are mushrooming in every lane of Delhi to woo the voters. But the people of Delhi are well matured to elect only able candidates, who can work for their constituency.
