An excursion to Rohtang Pass is a must on a trip to Manali. Located at an altitude of around 13,050 feet,on the Pir Panjal Range of the magnificent Himalayas, Rohtang is accessible through the Manali-Leh Highway, but the road is narrow and should be traversed with utmost care.
On the highway itself you will find many shops which rent fur coats, over coats and gum-boots for a comfortable experience in the snow clad mountains. But choose your essentials wisely as most of these are worn-out and may end up ruining your experience at Rohtang Pass. You may land up with painfully frozen feet due to uncomfortable shoes. Keep your nose and ears covered and carry some emergency medicines with you. The highway gets jammed and therefore it is advised to leave on time.
With wide stretches of glaciers, chilled breeze brushing past your face and clouds floating over the valley, the view is simply mesmerizing. When in Rohtang, you can trek uphill (or hire a pony) for amazing views, cleaner snow and undoubtedly an ultimate experience. There is nothing like sipping hot coffee or relishing maggi and paranthas amidst the snow. Skiing and paragliding are adventure option that can be explored there as well. If such activities are not your cup of tea, then how about playing with snow balls? 🙂 Though everything at Rohtang Pass is over-priced, right from cabs to accessories to the cost of adventure activities, but the experience is everlasting.
So, how about a thanda thanda cool cool escape to Rohtang this summer?
