Day 44 - Mount Abu to Sheoganj, Rajasthan (Kanyakumari to Leh Cycling)

Yogesh April 8, 2014
Now it was time to hit the road again after staying in Mount Abu and making a wonderful trip to Udaipur from there. It was 20 km uphill to Mount Abu when I was going there, and I sweated like anything. Now it was time to enjoy the effortless ride downhill. I reached the plains, covering a distance of 21 km, in just 45 minutes, which was a good start for the day. I witnessed a beautiful sunset from the hills while I was on my way down: [caption id="attachment_36322" align="aligncenter" width="665"]Sunrise in Mount Abu Sunrise[/caption] There were dhabas all my way, and I had food at one of them. For the first time in this whole journey, I had such a big meal. Dhabas are known for giving delicious meals and I ordered a full ‘thali’, which was for Rs. 60. I had my stop planned at Sirohi, which is 85 km from Mount Abu but when I searched for Gurudwaras there and in cities ahead of it, I found one Gurudwara at Sheoganj, 40 km north ahead of Sirohi. So I thought of staying at the Gurudwara itself and cycling to Sheoganj.  I reached Sheoganj at 1 pm after cycling for 127 km and asked for accommodation. The person who looks after the rooms was out so a lady opened a room for me. I got freshened up and slept for two hours. When I got up and was typing something, a person came and asked me to vacate the room as it was all occupied for the night. I could not do anything, so I packed my stuff back and cycled around in the city, looking for some cheap accommodation. An auto rickshaw driver told me that I could go to Sumerpur city, which was just 2 km ahead of Sheoganj. He said I could stay in a ‘dharamshala’ there. I did the same but after inquiring at the counter at the ‘dharamshala’, they told me that only Jain people were allowed. I feel too thirsty these days and need cold water every time. Thanks to the water cooler at this guest house and clay pots kept everywhere in shops, I can have cold water and fill my bottles too. My total distance cycled since 22 February 2014 is 3,011 km from Kanyakumari to Sheoganj, Rajasthan. I'm excited to cover the remaining distance soon!
