Kerala Temple Fire: Modi, Rahul meet victims

  • PM Modi arrived at Kerala and met the injured people before visiting the site of disaster. V.S. Achuthanandan, the leader of Opposition in Kerala called for declaring Paravur temple tragedy as a national disaster.
  • The Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi also visited the site in the afternoon.
  •  Kerala Cabinet announced Rs. 10 lakh ex-gratia for the family of the deceased and Rs. 2 lakh for the injured.
  • Ships carrying medical supplies and medical teams reached the Kollam harbour in the evening.

Culpable homicide case registered against temple officials 

3.30 PM IST, 10-04-2016: Top officials of the Puttingal Devi temple in Kollam, Kerala, have gone missing. As per media reports, the police have registered a case of culpable homicide against senior officials of the temple.

 

CM Oommen Chandy convenes Cabinet meet

 2:25 PM IST, 10-04-2016: A Cabinet meet convened by the chief minister of Kerala Oommen Chandy regarding the deadly temple fire is currently underway in the state. Ramesh Chennithala, state home minister, and state ministers Adoor Prakash, Shibu B John and Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan are present in the meet.

Best medical care being provided to the injured, says Kerala CM

1:30 PM IST, 10-04-2016: Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy, who arrived in Kollam, said that the best medical facilities were available. He further said that the best medical care was being provided to those injured in the fire by the state government.

Amit Shah arrives in Thiruvananthapuram

12.44 PM IST, 10-04-2016: BJP chief Amit Shah arrived in Thiruvananthapuram. He visited the the injured in the hospital. Meanwhile, the government of Kerala has launched a judicial probe in the incident.

Kerala CM calls fire incident unprecedented and alarming

11:53 AM IST, 10-04-2016:  The death toll in the deadly fire has crossed 105. Chief Minister of Kerala Oommen Chandy has called the incident alarming and unprecedented. He also stated that the rescue operations at the Puttingal temple were over. Meanwhile, Prime Minister of India Narendra modi will be visiting Kerala later today to take stock of the situation.

Kerala temple fire: death toll rises to 102

11:26 AM IST, 10-04-2016 : The death toll in the deadly fire at Puttingal temple at Paravaur in Kollam has risen to 102. Media reports say that a blast in the firework stockpile that was readied for the temple celebrations may have caused the fire. The fireworks contractor is also reported to have died in the incident. The IAF helicopters have been pressed into service and the navy is also providing assistance.

09:20 AM IST, 10-04-2016 : Over 200 people are reported to be killed in a devastating fire that broke out at Puttingal temple in Kollam, Kerala. As per media reports, around 200 people have been injured in the incident. The fire has been contained and the senior district and police official have reached the city. Chief Minister of Kerala, Oommen Chandy, is also heading to Kollam, which is located around 60km from Thiruvananthapuram.
