Best Actors of 2018 – Those Who Steal Our Hearts
It’s that time of the year again. The time when we pause and reflect back on the almost foregone year. And while we are at it, let’s not forget to think about those who have entertained us by their stunning performances, swept us off our feet by their good looks, and yes, the special ones who have done the both. There have been many heroes this year who made us gape, applaud and left us fanning ourselves. Let’s see who are the dearest and most loved from the Tinsel Town.
1. Ranveer Singh
Whether it’s the villainous role of Alauddin Khilji in Padmaavat, the love-struck Peshwa Bajirao in Bajirao Mastani, or the innocent, dreamy Bittoo from Band Baaja Baaraat, he fits in every role to a tee. No, seriously, how does he do that? Getting Filmfare awards is not easy, and he hit the jackpot in his first film itself. He took the golden lady home for Best Male Debut for Band Baaja Baaraat in 2010 and then again for Best Actor for Bajirao Mastani in 2016. And, now that he is married to the reigning queen of B’wood Deepika Padukone, the lucky boy has all reasons to smile and even grin. A highly talented actor by all yardsticks, the lucky boy/man will continue to impress us long after the Khans.
2. Akshay Kumar
He is one of few who was able to stay in the race with the reigning Khans in his time. No Picnic, really. And, he has continued his streak till date. A multi-talented actor, he sure knows how to touch hearts. He is the same guy who throws us into laughter riots with his spicy Garam Masala and made us think deep and hard with his timeless masterpieces like Oh My God. The year 2018 has been particularly interesting for the only martial artist and stuntman of the Bollywood. He managed to sway popularity early in his kitty this year with the hit Padman – a great uplift for his career and his established reputation of a philanthropist. And, we are still swaying madly in the lure of 2.0.
Now, he is in his 50s but is still easy on the eyes. And, we know in our heart, we’ll be treated with more great hits in the coming years. Growing old is for the ordinary. Our Akki is evolving.
3. Ranbir Kapoor
There is only one blue-eyed boy in the Kapoor family. And, this is he. However, from his Saawariya days, the chocolate guy has come a long way, and now has an unshakeable reputation of a method actor. The fact is now etched in stone with critics giving him the nod, too. He has proved his mettle with dark political drama Raajneeti, a heavy musical Rockstar, and yes the highly challenging Barfi (he got Filmfare best actor award for the last two). And, this year, he took us all by surprise with his personal best so far Sanju. Proud, is he? He got to be. The Kapoor scion is also known for having a ladies man image. But, that just goes with his charm of being genetically-blessed. He can do no wrong in our books.
4. Aamir Khan
Well, if it wasn’t for Mr. Perfectionist, we wouldn’t have some far-out movies with such strong messages. Whether it’s the female-empowering Dangal, a ridicule on the rigid mindset of parents Taare Zameen Par & 3 idiots and the satire-on-religion PK, he discovers new dimensions of acting and movie themes every time. This special Khan just knows how to keep the ball rolling. We know we’re in for a treat whenever there is a buzz that his movie is coming out. His Thugs of Hindostan might not be a thundering success, but his character shone through nonetheless. The efforts he puts, the lengths he goes to, sure earns him the title of the perfectionist that he is. The 4 National Film Awards, 9 Filmfare Awards, in addition to Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan, have secured his roots firmly in the industry over the time.
5. Kartik Aaryan
He is probably the next big thing of the Bollywood, just waiting to happen. Critics agree, too, that he has a heavy screen presence and is a perfect material for the mainstream Bollywood movies. And, that is just confirmed by the huge commercial successes he has had in Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 and Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. His good looks, that electric smile, those innocent love-filled eyes, who can resist that? And, did you know he won the Heartthrob of the Year 2018 from Vogue Beauty Awards? See, that’s what we are talking about. People are ready to have their next on-screen lover boy. And, the young guy isn’t lagging behind in grabbing trophies in acting department either – he won Best Actor In A Comic Role for Pyaar Ka Punchnama and Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety by Masala UAE Awards. And, the trail is to continue.
You know we always complain about how we don’t have a tall, young (dark, ahem, anyone?), handsome guy in the industry? He has come now.
6. Shah Rukh Khan
No Bollywood list is complete if it doesn’t have the name of King Khan. From a serious lover to the intense and dark villain, he has done it all. Like most B’wood heroes at the beginning of their career, he started off as a love-struck dude-in-distress in films like Deewana (1992), DDLJ (1995), Dil To Pagal Hai (1997), Mohabbatein (2000) and so many more – thoroughly loved by girls and critics. It really was whole another way of showing screen love. Then, he jumped to a way higher rung with his portrayal of an excruciating alcoholic in Devdas (2002), a fallen from grace coach in Chak De! India (2007), and then an autistic person in My Name Is Khan (2010). We’ll huff really bad if we point out all the brilliant acting nuances in these. He also knows how to keep things light with comedies like Chennai Express (2013), Happy New Year (2014), and Dilwale (2015). A recipient of Padma Shri and 14 Filmfare awards, the industry has witnessed nothing but rise and rise of Shah Rukh Khan. The year 2018 will end with a bang with his film Zero. And, we’re already anticipating a huge, huge hit.
7. Salman Khan
This Khan has to be a special of the lady luck. For one, he has this inexplicable spell on ladies, something which other two Khans on the list never have had in as much abundance as him. And, forget girls, even guys admire him, want to look like him, want to have a body like his, want to be him. His record at BO is next level. Although the 100-crore club term was coined way later, he is the one who entered it first with his 1994’s Hum Aapke Hain Kaun. A first for the industry. His success stories continued with films like Dabangg (2010), Ready (2011), Ek Tha Tiger (2012), Kick (2014), Sultan (2016), and Tiger Zinda Hai (2017). His Race 3 (2018) was a chart-topper as well. Lucky boy, indeed he is.
