Who Is R.Madhavan?

R. Madhavan is a popular Hindi and Tamil industry actor, writer, and director. He was born on June 1st, 1970 and acquired The Filmfare Award in Tamil in 2017, IIFA Utsavam Award for Best Performance in 2017, Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor in 2018. He was nominated for a popular award in Best Actor for a Supporting Role for the movie ‘3 idiots’. His latest nomination is the best director for the movie ‘ Rocketry: The nambi effect’ in 2023, where he played the lead role. Madhavan debuted in ‘Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein’ in 2001. He was in the 2006 famous movie ‘Rang De Basanti’ and in 2007 ‘Guru’. 

Early Life 

Madhavan was born in Jamshedpur, Bihar. His father worked at Tata Steel, and his mother worked at The Bank of India. He finished his school at DBMS English School, Jamshedpur, went to Canada for an exchange program with Rotary International, then completed his BSc in Electronics in Kolhapur.

He was selected from the NCC cadets because of his extracurricular military training. He joined six others and went to England for training under British Army, Royal Navy, and Air Force. He planned to join the Air Force. Due to the age cut-off, he got rejected. He started public speaking in Kolhapur and later joined Pg at Mumbai for public speaking. At that time, he created a portfolio to send to agencies for modelling. He represented India at Young Businessman Conference in Tokyo, Japan, for public speaking.

Career

He started acting in a sandalwood talc ad in 1996. His first serial was Yule love stories. He became famous as Shekhar in Saaya. His first movie was an uncredited role in ‘Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin’ (1996), where he played a singer. In 1997, Madhavan was a supporting actor in an English film, Inferno, directed by Fred Olen Ray and shot in India. In 1999, he acted in a Tamil romantic film, Alaipayuthey (2000). It was his first breakthrough. His romantic movie, Minnale, directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, changed his image as a romantic star. Dumm Dumm Dumm became a commercial success. He also acted in the Hindi remake of Minnale, which became successful after some time. He worked with Kamala Hassan in 2003 with Anbe Sivan. His work in ‘3 Idiots’ 2010 acclaimed a lot of fame.

Humanitarian

Madhavan works with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). He wrote to KFC to stop the mistreatment of animals. He worked with AIDS programs and in an advertisement, ‘A Time for Heroes’. He campaigned for educational awareness in a short video Agaram Foundation, Herova? Zerova?. He raised 2.5 million with actors of 3 idiots for building a school in Leh. He worked alongside other actors for various flood reliefs.
