The ICC T20 World Cup began on Sunday, October 17th, in Oman. The tournament was supposed to be held in India. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to conduct the ICC event in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Round 1 of the T20 World Cup began on October 17th, with Papua New Guinea taking on Oman, followed by a match between Scotland and Bangladesh. The semi-finals will be held on November 10 and 11, with the final on November 14th. And the semi-finals and the last will have standby days to compensate for poor weather.
Round 1 Teams
Round 1 contains eight teams: Ireland, Namibia, the Netherlands, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Oman, Papua New Guinea, and Scotland. They were split into two groups. They will face each other once, and the top two teams from both groups will advance to the Super 12s.
Group A: Sri Lanka, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Namibia
Group B: Bangladesh, Scotland, Papua New Guinea, and Oman
Super 12s Teams
England, Australia, South Africa, the West Indies, India, Pakistan, New Zealand, and Afghanistan have all qualified straight for the Super 12 stage. This round’s 12 teams will be split into two groups. Each team in the group will play the others once. Finally, the top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.
Group 1: England, Australia, South Africa, West Indies, A1 and B2 (from Round 1)
Group 2: India, Pakistan, New Zealand, Afghanistan, A2 and B1 (from Round 1)
