Himachal Pradesh Elections 2022: Congress Wrests Power From BJP, Wins 40 Out Of 68 Seats

The process of tallying the ballots for the Himachal Pradesh assembly election outcome of 2022 happened on December 8. The BJP and Congress are the two primary challengers for the HP election in 2022. The mountainous state has 68 Constituencies, with 35 being the majority mark. The Congress has defeated the BJP in the Himachal Pradesh assembly polls by a significant majority. Out of 68 seats, the Congress party has secured 40. Additionally, the BJP has gained 25 seats. In the last four decades, Himachal Pradesh has not chosen a sitting regime back to the office. The party’s victory in the hill is called recovery as it recently experienced a succession of electoral setbacks.

Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, a former chairman of the Himachal Pradesh Congress, defeated Vijay Kumar Agnihotri of the Bhartiya Janata Party by 3,363 votes to win the Nadaun assembly seat in the Hamirpur district. The Election Commission reports that Sukhu garnered 36,142 votes, and Agnihotri obtained 32,779 votes. There were six contestants involved.

On December 08, Priyanka Gandhi, the national general secretary of the Indian National Congress(INC), praised the Himachal Pradesh electorate and applauded party members on the Congress’ rise to prominence in the hill state. “Heartfelt thanks and greetings to the people of Himachal Pradesh for giving a mandate to the Indian National Congress. This is the victory of the resolution of the people of Himachal for progress. Best wishes to all the leaders and workers of the Congress party. Your hard work paid off,” Priyanka stated in a tweet.

Jai Ram Thakur, the incumbent chief minister and a BJP contender, won the Seraj seat by a landslide of 38,183 votes against Congress challenger Chet Ram. The Congress is set to establish a government in Himachal Pradesh Meanwhile, Thakur submitted his resignation, admitting loss in the state. To submit his resignation to Himachal Pradesh Governor, departing Himachal Pradesh CM Jairam Thakur travelled to Shimla’s Raj Bhawan. Thakur promised never to stop fighting for the welfare of people and to travel to Delhi if necessary.

According to Congress party chairman Mallikarjun Kharge on December 08, Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra helped Congress do well in the Himachal Pradesh Legislature election results. “We have won the Himachal elections. I want to thank the people, our workers and leaders as due to their efforts this result has come. I want to thank Priyanka Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra also helped us with this. Sonia Gandhi’s blessings are also with us,” Kharge told reporters.

After a more significant portion of the counting of votes indicated that the Congress would establish the government in the Himalayan state, Prime Minister Narendra Modi went on Twitter to express gratitude to the residents of Himachal Pradesh. “I thank the people of Himachal Pradesh for the affection and support for the BJP. We will keep working to fulfil the aspirations of the state and raise people’s issues in the times to come.” PM Modi wrote on Twitter
