Satish Kaushik is an Indian director, producer, actor, and screenwriter who has worked in numerous Bollywood films. Kaushik began his career in the film industry as an associate director to Shekhar Kapoor in the movie “Masoom” in 1983. 

Early life

Satish Kaushik attended a private school in his area before moving to Delhi to further his education. He attended Kirori Mal College at Delhi University and graduated with a degree in commerce. After graduating, Satish Kaushik moved to Mumbai (formerly Bombay) to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. He began his cinematic career as an associate filmmaker to Shekhar Kapoor in the movie “Masoom” in 1983. Subsequently, he first appeared as an actor in Shyam Benegal’s film “Mandi” in 1983.

A career in film industry

Satish Kaushik’s career in the film industry has spanned over three decades, during which he has worked as an actor, director, producer, and screenwriter. He started his career as an actor in the early 1980s, appearing in films like “Mandi” in the year 1983, “Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro” in the same year, and “Ram Lakhan” in the year 1989. He was mainly known for his comic roles and won the Filmfare Award for Best Comedian for his performance in “Ram Lakhan.”

As a Director and Producer

In the 1990s, Satish Kaushik shifted his focus to directing and produced and directed the film “Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja” in 1993, which starred Sridevi and Anil Kapoor. Despite being a box office failure, the film became a cult classic and was praised for its music and production design. Kaushik went on to direct several more films, including “Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain” (1999) and “Tere Naam” (2003), which starred Salman Khan and was a commercial success.

In addition to appearing and filmmaking, Satish Kaushik has produced numerous films, notably “Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai” in 2001, starring Tushar Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor. He has also scripted films such as “Tere Naam”. Apart from his work in Hindi films, Satish Kaushik has also acted in English-language films, including “Brick Lane” (2007) and “The Gangs of Tooting Broadway” (2013). He has also appeared in several television shows, including “Sarabhai vs Sarabhai” and “Sumit Sambhal Lega.”

In addition to his work in films, Satish Kaushik has also appeared in several television shows, including the popular comedy show “Sarabhai vs Sarabhai”. He has also written and produced several plays and has been actively involved in theatre.

His Demise

Kaushik passed from cardiac arrest on March 9, 2023, in Gurugram, at 66. In his most recent Instagram photo, he was spotted partying Holi 2023 at Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi’s home.
