Met Gala or Met Ball, officially known as Costume Institute Gala is an annual fundraising event at Metropolitan Museum of Art, Costume Institute.
Established in 1948 by fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert, Met Gala takes place every first Monday of May. At first, Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief, Vogue, said: “Due to the unavoidable and responsible decision by the Metropolitan Museum to close its doors, About Time, and the opening night gala will be postponed to a later date.” She further added that the magazine would still be previewing the “extraordinary exhibition” in its May issue. However, later the entire show was entirely called off, considering the global health crisis.
This year’s theme was “About Time: Fashion and Duration” and is still set to open on October 29 and run through February 7, 2021, as the costume institute is planning to reopen around mid-August this year. However, other manoeuvres like tours and concerts stand cancelled through the end of the year.
