The Budget 2023 of Uttar Pradesh stands as a step towards making UP India’s largest economy.

After the declaration of the Union Budget 2023, different states have also passed their budgets for the financial year 2023-24.

Uttar Pradesh

The annual budget of Uttar Pradesh for the financial year 2023-24 was presented by the state’s finance minister Suresh Khanna on February 22, 2023. For the second time, the budget was presented under Yogi Adityanath as a Chief Minister. The Budget 2023 of Uttar Pradesh stands as a step towards making UP India’s largest economy. The development-oriented budget of UP focuses on infrastructure, empowerment of youths and women, and welfare schemes for the citizens.

Takeaways from the Uttar Pradesh budget 

  • For the eligible students of the Swami Vivekananda Youth Empowerment Scheme, a sum of Rs 3,600 crore is allotted to provide them with smartphones and tablets.
  • Different provisions are made for the women of the state. Rs 1,050 crore is sanctioned under Chief Minister Kanya Sumangala Yojana; for the Destitute widows, Rs 4,032 is allotted; Rs 600 crore for the Samuhik Vivah scheme; Rs 150 crore under the marriage grant scheme.
  • The government has announced an outlay of Rs 21,159 for the construction of roads and bridges; Rs 3,473 crore for the work of roads and bridges for agricultural marketing; Rs 6,209 crore for maintenance, and Rs 1,525 crore for roads in rural areas.
  • The government makes various other provisions for the state’s infrastructural development, keeping in mind tourism, state highways, metro rail projects and others.
  • Provisions are also made for the sectors of health, research and jobs. Amounts are allotted for the schemes, including the Old age/farmer pension scheme, Divyang Pension Yojana, National Rural Health Mission, and Ayushman Bharat scheme.
  • Rs 60 crore is allotted by the state for IT and startups.

 Gujarat

The annual budget for the state of Gujarat is announced by the state’s finance minister, Kanubhai Desai. The Bhupendra Patel-led government has announced the budget for the financial year 2023-24, focusing on taxes, infrastructure and housing schemes aiming to get the support of all sections of society.

The crucial points of the Gujarat budget 

  • The government will change the overall taxation system, and no new taxes will be imposed on the people.
  • The state’s government aims to increase the state’s GDP beyond Rs 42 lakh crore.
  • Rs 5 lakh crore will be spent on developing infrastructure facilities in the next five years.
  • A provision of Rs 550 is made to strengthen and reconstruct old bridges in the new budget.
  • The government also plans to develop five highways in the state to develop high-speed corridors.
  • Under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya-MA scheme, the government has proposed to double the annual insurance limit.
  • Rs 5,950 crore would be allocated for the Narmada project and a provision of Rs 150 crore for the Sabarmati riverfront near Gujarat’s Gandhinagar and GIFT City.
  • With the support of the Philippines-based Asian Development Bank, the government plans to establish a financial tech hub in GIFT City.

 Haryana

Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar presented the budget for Haryana on February 23 in the state assembly. As the state economy is mainly based on agriculture, the budget focuses on developing agriculture amid climate change.

Significant takeaways from the Haryana budget

  • The agriculture and allied sector have got an allocation of Rs 8,316 crore in the budget estimates.
  • The state has prepared a project of Rs 27 crore to promote the cultivation of millets through cluster demonstration, and it also encourages the cultivation of Bajra.
  • The state aims to bring about 20,000 acres of land under natural farming, for which two training centres have been established in Karnal and Kurukshetra.
  • Khattar set a two lakh acre target for direct seeding of rice.
  • A hike in financial aid for Haryana Gau Sewa Aayog has been made. The provision is increased from Rs 40 crore to Rs 400 crore.
