Pollution has created havoc in Delhi. People, especially children and senior citizens, are getting various types of ailments due to poisonous air of the national capital. In one of the surveys, the World Health Organisation (WHO) of 1,650 world cities, Delhi is listed as one of the worst cities hit by pollution. Poor air quality is proving hazardous as it damages the lungs of 2.2 million people.

Curbing pollution top priority of AAP
Seeing the graveness of the situations the Delhi government will hold a high-level meeting of top officials and NGOs on February 27 to find out the solution to overcome air pollution in the national capital. Gopal Rai was given the portfolio of the environment department in the new AAP government, and he is looking optimistic in curbing pollution in Delhi. He said the reduction in pollution levels would be among the top priority of the Arvind Kejriwal government. He told a mass awareness campaign will also be launched by the Delhi government to deal with air pollution
Govt ready to lessen pollution 3-time
All the officials have been asked to present their views and plan on how to tackle pollution levels in Delhi. The environment is the key issue the AAM party has to cope within the next five years. The ruling party of Delhi had mentioned in its guarantee card to lessen Delhi’s pollution level by three times.
Smog tower at Lajpat Nagar
To combat the severe air pollution level, Delhi’s first smog tower was installed at the Central Market in Lajpat Nagar last month. As per the report, the smog tower would help to suck polluted air. The large 20 ft tall air-purifier is expected to treat 250,000 to 600,00 cubic metres of air every day, and it will operate on electricity.
Gigantic tower costs 7 lakh
Cricketer-turned BJP MP Gautam Gambhir’s foundation procured this installation of the air-purifier cylindrical tower with the help of Lajpat Nagar Traders Association. It is estimated that Rs 7 lakh has been spent on its installation. Its running cost would be around Rs 30,000 per month. There are four colours in this tower. The sequence of colour from top to bottom is – orange, white, blue and green
Experts have raised the feasibility of the tall purifier tower. They believe that smog towers are not suitable for a city like Delhi. It is difficult to say if anti-pollutant towers will help to improve air quality.
