Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan promises to cover the costs of girls’ college tuition upon completing 16 years of his signature program, Ladli Laxmi Yojana. Speaking at the event, the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh announced that the state government would pay the tuition fees for female students attending colleges of medicine, engineering, law, and IIT. Shivraj Singh Chouhan was quoted in the speech, “We have decided that under the Ladli Laxmi Yojana, Shivraj ’mama’ will pay the tuition for engineering, law, IIT, and medical colleges instead of the parents.”

The “Ladli Lakshmi Utsav” will be observed in Madhya Pradesh’s cities and panchayats from May 9 to May 15. The Utsav will feature several competitions, programs, and health check-ups. The scheme has been running for 16 years, according to the chief minister, and has assisted girls in showcasing their talents in all areas. He addressed himself to the female students in his state as “mama.”

Numerous initiatives for girls’ education, better health, and self-reliance training have been launched to elevate the status of daughters and alter societal perceptions. The Ladli Lakshmi Yojana began with the intention that daughters should not receive preferential treatment and that sons and daughters should be treated equally.

According to Shivraj, special efforts are being made for women’s empowerment. In addition, the program emphasizes providing daughters with every opportunity for advancement. An essential step in this direction in terms of opportunity is the establishment of reservations in recruitment for departments such as the police and education. There is also reservation of spaces for women in panchayats and urban bodies.

The Chief Minister cited an increase In the state’s sex ratio to 956 girls for every 1,000 boys born as evidence that numerous daughter-benefiting schemes, besides the Ladli Lakshmi scheme, are also showing success.
