Minister of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries (May 2019 – Present): Giriraj Singh

Date of Birth: Giriraj was born on September 8, 1952.

Place of Birth: He was born at Barahiya in Bihar.

Parents: His father is Ramavtar Singh, while his mother was Late Tara Devi.

Spouse: He is married to Uma Sinha. Together they have a daughter.

Political Party: He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Education: He completed his graduation from Magadh University, Bodh Gaya, Bihar in 1971.

Career: He is an agriculturist by profession, with special interest in rural development based on fisheries and livestock. Apart from that, he has also been active in politics. He has earlier served as the Minister of Cooperative, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Resource Development in the Bihar government as well. He served as the Minister of Cooperatives from 2005 to 2010 and then as Minister of Animal Husbandry from 2010 to 2013.

Giriraj Singh has been a vocal supporter of Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of India for a long time now. When the alliance between Janata Dal United (JDU) and BJP broke in Bihar, he was among the 11 members that Nitish Kumar, the-then Chief Minister of Bihar expelled from the state cabinet. He also happens to be a member of the state election committee of the BJP. This is a body that is made up of 16 members.

Political Milestones: From 2002 to May 2014 he was a member of the legislative council of Bihar. From May 16, 2014 to May 25, 2019 he was the Member of Parliament (MP) from the Nawada constituency.

From May 23, 2019 onwards, Giriraj Singh has been the MP from the Begusarai constituency. From November 9, 2014 to September 3, 2017, he served as the Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. From September 4, 2017, he was a Minister of State on Independent Charge in the same ministry. On May 30, 2019, he was sworn in as the Union Minister of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries. From September 1, 2014 to November 9, 2014 he also served as a member of the Joint Committee on Salaries and Allowances of Members of Parliament and the Standing Committee on Labour.
