FIFA Under 17 World Cup will be held in India from October 6 to 28. It will be a big moment for India, as this is the first time that the country is hosting as well as participating in the prestigious FIFA tournament. The tournament, which will be held in six Indian cities, will witness the participation of 24 teams that will be divided in six groups of 4 teams each. The venues for the Under-17 World Cup will be Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata; Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Kochi; Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi; DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai; Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Guwahati; and Fatorda Stadium, Margao. The slogan for the India edition is 'Football takes over' and the Official Mascot of the tournament is a clouded leopard called Kheleo.
The teams
The 24 nations competing in the tournament have been divided into six groups. Each group would comprise four teams. The groups are as follows:
Group A: India, United States, Colombia and Ghana.
Group B: Paraguay, Mali, New Zealand and Turkey.
Group C: Iran, Guinea, Germany and Costa Rica.
Group D: North Korea, Niger, Brazil and Spain
Group E: Honduras, Japan, New Caledonia and France
Group F: Iraq, Mexico, Chile and England
India, the host nation, has been placed in Group A along with United States, Colombia and Ghana. Football is a popular game in India and has a huge fan following. So, football fans are expected to throng the stadia’s to witness these exciting matches. With India making a debut, the stadiums will probably be packed to full capacity. It would be great opportunity for Indians to witness some of the budding Football players from different parts of the world. Apart from India, the other two teams that are making their debut in this India edition are Niger and New Caledonia.
Previous Winners of the tournaments
Nigeria is the reigning champion of FIFA Under-17 World Cup. However, the Nigerian team did not qualify for the 2017 India Edition. Nigeria have won the tournament five times (1985, 1993, 2007, 2013, and 2015). They are the most successful country, having also finished runners-up three times (1987, 2001, 2009).
Matches featuring India
India will play its first match of the tournament on October 6, 2017. On this day India will face the United States. On October October 9, 2017, India will face Colombia. On October 12, 2017, India will play Ghana.
The top two teams in each group will automatically qualify for the round of 16. The team placed last in each group will be eliminated from the tournament. The teams placed third in each group will play each other while the top four teams will qualify for the round of 16. The round of 16 will start from October 16, the quarterfinals from October 22, semifinals from October 25 and the final will be on October 28.

The Official song of the 2017 FIFA under 17 is called “Kar Ke Dikhla De Goal”, which roughly translates as “Show That You Can Score a Goal”.
