Plot
Budhia Singh: Born To Run is a biopic made on the world’s youngest maratahon runner named Budhia Singh (played on-screen by Mayur Patole). The flick tells the tale of this wonder kid who was recognized and brought to the spotlight by coach Biranchi Das (played on-screen by Manoj Bajpayee). The movie starts off against the backdrop of divine Puri, situated in Bhubaneshwar, where the 5-year-old Budhia Singh is sold off to a local merchant by his poor mother, for a mere Rs. 650. It is then, that the social entrepreneur Biranchi Das comes into the scene and rescues Budhia. He convinces his mother to allow Budhia to stay with him until she gets a job. Later, Budhia Singh gets on to discover Budhia’s ‘god-gifted’ talent to run for miles without getting tired and starts training him, eyeing a world record.
During his hardwork of training Budhia for a world record, the coach Biranchi Das starts overlooking his family. What follows is a series of allegations imposed by the Child Welfare Board’s Committee members, on Biranchi Das and Budhia Singh. What happens to Budhia Singh and his career and would coach Biranchi Das be able to realize his dream of Budhia winning at Olympics, is what forms the crux of the movie.
Performances
The National Award winning actor, Manoj Bajpayee has managed to carry his character of Biranchi Das in an outstanding manner. He has shined in every scene and his portrayal of Budhia’s coach has actually provided a great deal of depth to the flick.
Playing the title of the movie is Mayur Patole, who’s been thoroughly convincing and also successful in stealing many hearts during different sequences.
Tillotama Shome in the role of Budhia’s mother has limited dialogues but has been successful in delivering a fabulous performance. Then there is Chhaya Kadam, who, in the role of the head of the Child Welfare Society, Odisha has done complete justice to her role.

What’s Good?
Manoj Bajpayee’s performance as Budhia’s coach in the film is simply outstanding. The first half of the movie is extremely interesting and the relationship between Budhia and his coach will keep you engaged throughout the flick. Mayur, the kid, has pulled off his dialogues really well.
What’s Bad?
The movie is just like any other Bollywood sports flick. It appears clichéd in certain scenes and gets a little too melodramatic towards the second half.
Verdict
Although the story of Budhia Singh deserves to be told, the same hasn’t been showcased well in Budhia Singh: Born To Run. The movie has a very basic plot, and rides on the actors’ performances more than anything.
